There is one shmup called Cloudphobia where you play with an mecha, never really played it and it's really not very popular, most youtube videos are either from 7 years ago, 5 years ago or 3 years ago when it was apparently finally released as an full game, even then there are not that many, i have no idea if the game is good or bad.
All videos from the final release i found have commentary so i went for the trailers instead.

One giant mech game I like is Gundam Wing: Endless Duel for the Super Famicom. It's a one-on-one fighting game with amazing graphics. Wow, totally forgot that game existed. I was always partial to using Deathscythe and Epyon. I always liked the The Battle Master on Playstation. A high-res 2-D hand drawn update would be sublime.

How about top down shooter and tower defense with giant war machines/robots? I'm not exactly into these kind of games, but X-Morph: Defense looks overwhelming, especially for the genre, i kind of wanna try this:

There were two BattleTech games by Westwood Studios: a CRPG by the name of The Crescent Hawk's Inception and a real-time tactics game by the name of The Crescent Hawk's Revenge. Also, Brigador was released about a month ago. It sort of resembles the Mega Drive BattleTech game. EDIT: today seems to be the day my reading comprehension is failing me. Brigador was released in June last year. Then again, the enhanced version was released this year.

IMHO a mech game needs to have piloting the mechs as the "main dish". I'm not sure where's Chojin Sentai Jetman's "main dish": in it's side scrolling sections or VS Battle bits, but if you want to add it, here's that. I could mention a few more 2D action side scrolling games: Madoo Granzort(PCESuperGrafx) Devastator(SegaCD) Genocide - similar to aforementioned Mad Stalker:Full Metal Force. Night Slave(PC98) - famous for adult content, but otherwise fairly decent, draws inspiration from Assault Suit series. Steel Strider - follow-up to GIGANTIC ARMY. Pacific Rim - movie related, if you want to expand VS Fighter category. RahXephon:Blue Sky Fantasia(PS2) - based on anime of the same name.Haven't played it, but it seems similar to Zone Of The Enders in concept.

I remember Crescent Hawk's Revenge being extremely difficult but I was also 10 when it came out. Has anyone played through it before? Is it worth revisiting?
