I really like these types of games when I am sick of Mario stuff. Any other really good ones besides these games
Dahna:Megami Tanjou(Genesis) Shadow Dancer(Genesis) Legendary Axe 2 (TG16) Splatterhouse series Shadow of the Beast series
Blackthorne
Games like Castlevania,Metroid and Ghouls and Ghosts aren't what I am looking for.

I mean, since you mentioned Blackthorne, a couple obvious suggestions would be Out Of This World/Another World and Flashback: The Quest For Identity. But I'm assuming you already knew about those, or have played them on other platforms.

Check out Odallus: The Dark Call on Steam. It's a retro-styled game that's kinda more similar to Demon's Crest (a SNES one worth looking into, by the way.) It's more 8-bit looking than 16, but it's got the sensibilities of a modern game in that style.

Already familiar with those. It seems the Genesis is the place for these types of games.

Not sure about Salt and Sanctuary and Bloodrayne:Betrayal but you could do well by trying Slain: Back from Hell and Blades of Vengeance for Gen/MD. And of course Cotton 2: Magical Night Dreams. Probably not

Forgot about Blasphemous. Still being developed, but it's looking to be one of those dark, bloody and brutal ones.

Throwing in another vote for Demon's Crest. Great moody atmosphere and music.

Maldita Castilla (PC) Demon's Crest (SNES) Gargoyle's Quest (GB) and GQ2 (NES/GB) Jurassic Park (SMS) Adventures of Batman & Robin (MD & SNES) Nosferatu (SNES) Pretty good list. However, I'm wondering if Maldita Castilla and to a lesser degree the Gargoyle's Quest/Demon's Crest games are too much like Ghouls 'n Ghosts for mainpatr? Jurassic Park for the Master System is a great, but I'd say it's a bit too bright and colorful and the music too cheerful to be called "dark". (The first Genesis game is much darker - but also a significantly worse game). The SNES version of Batman and Robin fits the description perfectly in my opinion. The Genesis/MD one sure is dark, but maybe too hectic and too "techno" to be "moody"? Nosferatu seems like a good choice, too. Gameplay is not as good as in Blackthorne or Prince of Persia, but it's certainly dark and moody. The intro alone is pretty cool:
