We chose IGN because they really understand our vision, share our passion for games, and believe in our mission to promote awesome digital content while helping charity. I can’t think of a better partner than IGN to help Humble Bundle continue our quest.

We will be working harder than ever to bring you the best gaming bundles, book bundles, and store sales, while nurturing the Humble Monthly and our new publishing initiative. We will keep our own office, culture, and amazing team with IGN helping us further our plans. We will raise even more money for charity.

John and I started Humble Bundle from our childhood homes. When our parents found out that our “big idea” was basically the honor system of pay-what-you-want plus charity, they braced themselves for the possibility that we might never move out. Seven years later, thanks to the generosity of over 10 million customers, we’ve now raised $106 million for charity. We are incredibly proud of this figure, of our team, and the Humble community which got us here.

As noted in the comments, I thought IGN already had something like this once upon a time in the form of Direct2Drive.

Considering that IGN isn't even a publisher I'm not sure this will change anything. It does mean that HB was in some financial trouble, which is of course worrisome.

Over the last few years Humble has also become a backer and publisher of some indie projects, which already raises concerns about the conflict of interest it may entice in case IGN reviews those in the future. Those "nothing will change" words sound like the usual PR bullshit of every acquisition ever; only time will tell me whether it's a lie or not. As for possibile financial troubles, one has to wonder if Humble wasn't a victim of its own success, with a growing "necessity" to acquire hefty licenses for AAA titles and popular and/or critically acclaimed indies to stay relevant. For a while, there was a flood of bundles from them too, until they decided to scale back and cancel the weeklies. I've also never been a fan of the Monthly - too much of a gamble, and a huge chunk of its games end up in regular bundles later anyway, sometimes after just a few months.

I can only hope they don't come out worse - one of the reasons I like their store is that they often offer access to both a Steam key and a DRM-free installer when you purchase a game. As for reaction, I'm reading quite a few people deciding to cancel their subscription to the Monthly.

As long as I still get one or two good games for one buck every once in a while I don't really care. But it's weird anyway.

If you lived Outside of US those was rather bad since Sony only ever made the Codes for US region accounts that made it anytime they did a Vita title even worse thanks to Sony stupid only one Account per a system nonsense they have on the Vita. Also Nintendo only did like two Bundles and the first one was US only but they made the Second work for both Europe and US yet Sony never could.

I'm very wary of this move, because IGN previously acquired Direct2Drive as part of their purchase of GameSpy, only to later sell the D2D content and databases (but not the servers) to Gamefly. The reason I make this distinction is that, while you are entirely able to log into your D2D account on Gamefly and download the installers to games you'd purchased, the games that need online activations can't actually activate, meaning you've downloaded a 1.5 GB installer that can't actually install a damn thing.

Granted, Humble's installers generally don't need to call home to activate, but I'm a bit stuck on the question of whether or not I should be mass-downloading every installer, soundtrack, and APK file I've ever gotten through them and making massive backups.

That's exactly where I am with this. A major digital distro hasn't failed yet, but if Humble goes down, I imagine it will be a rude awakening for people with lots of DRM free games, books, soundtracks etc.
