I don't remember if there has ever been a thread for this, but I'm sure a lot of you tell yourselves this year is finally going to be the year that you'll beat game X you have had in your backlog for ages. Or maybe you're planning on finally giving series Y a try, or make more use out of system Z.
So, post your plans for the coming year here, and then at the end of the year, we can see how hard we all failed!
I'll start: -I've been planning to beat Dragon Quest III for ages now. I really want to play more of the series, and give the Final Fantasy series a try, but I want to beat this first. -I really need to get copies of Super Mario Land and Super Mario Galaxy. These are currently the only Mario games I don't own in any form, though I have beaten them both. -I borrowed Metroid Zero Mission from someone, but haven't gotten to it yet. -I would like to get up-to-date with the Ace Attourney series. Starting with replaying the first three games (of which I only own the third one). -Some other random games from my backlog that have been in there for too long and that I want to get out of the way this year: Undertale, Mystic Quest, Pikmin 3, Kirby Mass Attack and MOTHER. -Maybe play my XBOX for a change.

-Spend less time procrastinating on the web and actually play games instead of just thinking about it.

I am going to revisit the PS3 and my backlog. I haven't touched it or bought many games for it since I owned a PS4.

I mainly plan on going through the rest of the Quest for Glory games after playing the remake of II this year. Probably going to play I, then import my character from II into III.

Going to finish the articles I've had lying around incomplete for years, including Mappy, Lunar, Star Ocean (first two anyway) and Corpse Party. Also get done articles for Star Fox, Final Fantasy Tactics, and the rest of Metroid.

Of course. I'd intended to do it last year, but got sidetracked. Back then it would've been based off the beta, but having the finished one out there is even better. Though, I've only played about 15 mins of it for now on the SNES Classic.

There's a million different games I want to play in 2018, it's frustrating to think that you just might not have time for them all.
It comes down to a balance of what's better, to beat a few really long games or a whole bunch of shorter ones?
Some broad goals for 2018 I have though is to focus more on titles released within the last 3 years, especially playing catch up with many of the big titles from 2017.
But for specific games, I'd like to play Assassin's Creed Syndicate, Assassin's Creed Origins, Grand Theft Auto 5, Red Dead Redemption 2 and The Witcher 3, those are the big ones that I expect to take up the most time and we'll see whether I can play all of them, but some games I will definitely set aside the time for are Nioh, Nier Automata, Yakuza Zero and Legend of Zelda Breath of The Wild.
I've also talked about playing Persona 3, 4 and 5, which alone is a huge undertaking (I'm leaning towards just playing 4 and 5, I've already played 3 even if it's been close to a decade)
But beyond focusing on recent titles there are still older ones I want to play, for starters one big thing I've been planning since 2015 is to revisit the Nintendo DS library, the big ones I'm wanting to play are the three Castlevania games released on it and the Ace Attorney trilogy, I'd also love to play the two Advance Wars games on it (though I'd like to play Advance Wars 2 on GBA first)
There are also still some PS2, Xbox and Gamecube games I'd like to play, I've spent years revisiting and catching up with 6th gen games and it just never seems to end lol.
What's funny is this doesn't leave much room for actual 2018 titles, the only one I can even think of that's coming out next year is Red Dead Redemption 2, it's the eternal problem of gamers, as you're making your way through your back catalog it only continues to grow as more and more games continue to be released.

Me, I'm just gonna play Dark Souls 2, Bloodborne and Dark Souls 3. That's pretty much it. Maybe I'll try to squeeze in something else if I manage to Platinum them all this year.

-Spend less time procrastinating on the web and actually play games instead of just thinking about it. This is what it comes down to, I could get more games played if I didn't procrastinate so much on the net. Me, I'm just gonna play Dark Souls 2, Bloodborne and Dark Souls 3. That's pretty much it. Maybe I'll try to squeeze in something else if I manage to Platinum them all this year. Those 3 games will take you all year? I've been wanting to get into the Souls series myself but I wonder how much time it would take.

I was joking, but seriously, each of those games can easily take 40h just to complete the main game. Much, much more if you decide to dive in to the extra content and DLC or try to complete the Platinum. DS2 especially is fucking HUGE.

1. Beat Final Fantasy VIII.
2. Beat Grandia.
3. Beat an Infinity Engine WRPG.
5. Beat three X68000 games.
6. Beat three Dreamcast games.
7. Beat three OG Xbox games.
8. Beat three PS2 games.
9. Beat three GameCube games.
10. Give Earthbound an honest chance (maybe beat it).
11. Beat Dark Souls.
12. Beat Aquanaut's Holiday: Hidden Memories (PS3).
