Many games feature in-game currency in which player can buy items or service from shopkeepers Some are bland while the other have lots personality Some are plain while the other have good visual design You can assume most of them helping you only for economic reason I want to know what shopkeeper NPC that you really fancy In my case, this guy from 3D beat-em-up with Tolkien-y nuance: Legend (PS1) He sells: extra lives, magic vials, replenish items (meat to wine), magic shield, and weapons (magic gauntlet to cannon) He is not only selling crazy diversity of goods, but also very expressive He got many body languages or gesture like: walking around behind his desk, scratching his head , showing off his good to the left and right, or waving you goodbye while saying "Bye! See you soon! [pause] Maybe." He sounds like your typical shady fat chap. Overall this guy is the best shopkeeper in any videogame history ever, IMO

Neko from Secret of Mana. I love traveling shopkeepers like him.

Torneko Taloon is my favorite, of course. I'm also quite fond of the pigs from The Dragon's Trap and Cuphead. And who can forget the merchant from Resident Evil 4?
"Ehehe, thank you!"

This is the most obvious choice, I mean how could you really not pick this guy? I certainly can't think of another shopkeeper NPC that's as memorable this guy. Part of what's funny is he makes no sense, who is this guy? Is he a Las Plagas victim? Why is he selling all this heavy artillery in the middle of nowhere? Maybe he's some guy who knew about the Las Plagas infection and thought somebody needed to clean house, but where'd he get this stuff from? Anyway I can think of a good number 2 though and that's Hammer from Castlevania Aria of Sorrow and Dawn of Sorrow, this time he does have a backstory, he was a soldier caught up in the eclipse and spirited away to Dracula's castle along with everyone else and instead of fighting decided to collect weapons to sell to Soma, it's still pretty silly but makes more sense than RE4's merchant.

Ramus in Lunar. When the shit hits the fan, he's happy to let his hero buddies have as many items as they want for free to help save the world. Then his descendant steps up and gives the heroes of the day the same offer in the sequel.

1. Torneko Taloon, for his awesome DQ4 chapter. 2. Gobi from Breath of Fire. He poses as a standard shopkeeper, until the ship you're traveling crashes and control switches to him for the span of an underwater town and a dungeon. 3. This guildmaster from Revengers of Vengeance, cause he's such a badass, battle-scarred tiger dude.

The WB3 pig and the rude old lady from Golvellius. Also agreed on SD2 and RE4.

This bastard from the Soulsborne series: He's also the only character in the series who survives thousands of years until the end of the world, purely by the virtue of being a greedy, sneaky asshole. Quite a feat when even gods falter. Even further, if you subscribe to the theory of Bloodborne being in the same timeline.

Special mention must be made of Code of Princess solely because it has this amazing shop song:
