All the ones I go into are dead, despite having twenty or more people in them. Occasionally my futile greeting of "what's up" is answered by an enthusiastic "MY PENIS LOLZ", but I was really hoping for something a little more engaging. Any recommendations?
On a side note, why doesn't HG101 have a channel yet?
EDIT: I figured the channel link should be at the top of the topic. It's #hg101 on irc.psigenix.net.

I was actually going to bring up the possibility of a HG101 IRC channel, but I was a tad shy about it. Good to see someone else is on the same wavelength as me here.
I'm on IRC all day in a small room on Xelium with just my friends and would like to venture elsewhere because as is the only other channel I visit is the infamous Lurk, and even then I have a custom script to shut up 99% of the messages in there.
So definitely seconding this.

Yeah, I still wonder why precisely we haven't branched out. If we do do it though, I recommend sticking it on Dynastynet, Aniverse, Irchighway, or Rizon. Since you know, those are the networks I visit. I'm pretty good with making channels/managing them, I used to run a really small room once.

Make an IRC channel, and I shall, at the very least, idle for 24 hours a day... or more.
And I vote Efnet.

maybe I should've checked out these forums first before posting my invitation to an IRC channel. -_- Anyway, here's where I hang out a lot.

We could always go web-based irc. Gabbly might even work, but friends of mine who've started Gabbly chats haven't had much success with them.
Hell, I enjoy chatting in real time. I suppose any of of us could easily start a channel, but if a semi-official announcement is made, then it'll definitely attract more visitors.

I think an IRC channel would be pretty cool.
I'm mostly on Xelium (or as it's called these days, PSIGenix), with the occassional trip to Lunarnet. Both are pretty good servers. It's pretty damn easy to register a channel with either and use chanserv to give out ops and such.

An HG101 irc channel would be pretty awesome. I've never used irc but I'm sure there's nothing to it (I hope).

Yeah, I never used IRC but the concept of talking to forumers on the close is cool.
Good idea.

Whee, so many nets! Me visits Quakenet...so, how do we get all those nets together? I know, let's build some big net that connects all those smaller nets...we'll call it "Intarnet" or something...

The Intarnet is a series of tubes...

We'll be better off if we stick to a small-mid sized server for the channel, IMO. Or at the very least, avoid DALNet and BeyondIRC like the plauge.
DALNet's pretty self-explanatory (MASSIVE server, constant bots, DDoS attacks, etc), but BeyondIRC is slow, unstable, user-unfriendly, and a few of the opers there are massive assholes.
