Batou = Bateau = Boat
True story.
ACTUAL RELEVANCE: I remember how much peoples' exploding faces creeped me out. It really reminded me that despite looking and acting like people, the cyborgs in the film were still man-made mechanisms with very little biology left in them. Plus, it was just so sudden and random.

What I don't understand is how you (Gunheart) can say that anything about 00 is fresh, especially is mecha design. You said it yourself, the Exia/00 is the RX-78 and the Kyrios/Arios is the Zeta. While we're at it, the Dynames/Cherudium is the Mark II (complete with G-Defenser). The only Gundam that's even remotely original is the Virtue/Seravee, which looks like a Gundam wearing a fat suit. While I'll admit that the non-Gundam MS designs are pretty cool, the Gundams themselves don't really depart from Okawara's "tired" designs (suddenly it's in-vogue to hate Okawara: all the cool elitist kiddies at MAHQ are doing it). As a matter of fact, the second generation 00 Gundams (which are exactly the same as the first generation 00 Gundams) have only become more like Okawara's Gundams in adopting the classic faceplate. Because the Exia is only the RX-78 in terms of colorscheme and general recognizability. Actually look at the parts its made up of, and you'll see the difference. Ignore the face, ignore the colorscheme, and just look at things like the torso, the head or the limbs. The Kyros is also only like the Zeta in terms of the Waverider being almost identical in appearance. As for Kunio, I do like his designs (GaoGaiGai being my favorite), I just find his Gundams lackluster. In fact, him doing all the main mecha is actually a fairly recent development: before G, he only designed the classic series of the UC timeline, as every entry typically brought in a host of other new mecha designers. That said, I can respect the reasons why you like Seed.

Anti-Okawara elitism aside, the repeating designs are simply marketing trends that Bandai likes to capitalize on. There'll always be a simple RX-78 type Gundam, there'll always be a transforming Gundam that may or may not look like the Zeta, there'll always be a Gunbdam with BFG and there'll always be a Gundam with a cool looking but impractical backpack that'll make all its kits and figures so top heavy they topple backwards without some balancing. It may be laziness and poor taste on the designer's part but as long as Japan doesn't outright reject them en mass then that's the way they'll roll. I like all these designs on their own merits. There was never a point in my life when I looked at the Duel and said "Oh it's a rehash of the Alex." In defense of Kyrios & Arios, though, how many transforming Gundams wear their wings as kneecaps instead of backpacks?

I wasn't knocking the 00 designs. I was just saying that they weren't "fresh" compared to Okawara's designs. I thought Okawara got consistently better as time went on and I really like his designs in SEED and Destiny.
I really like the Kryios and Arios, but I still think that the Savior is the coolest Zeta-type.

Saviour looks more like the Airmaster to me. Same transformation gimmick, too.

More Gundam stuff: I finished watching The 08th MS Team today, which makes all 3 of the OVAs. I loved them all, but in my opinion, 0083 > 08th > 0080.
Any suggestions on what I should watch next? I'm strongly interested in anything taking place in the UC timeline, since I already know some of the characters and conventions, but I'll take anything if it's good.
Sorry if my question is redundant.

They're all really good, but really long. If you want something slow and lighthearted that becomes REALLY good, I recommend Turn A. If you haven't seen Zeta I would do that, since you also mentioned UC Timeline. Really there's no bad place to start. You could also check out the new shit with 00. Another thing that is cool about Turn A is that it attempts to unify all the shows and seperate timelines prior to the show's creation. See episode 43 if you want to know how awesome this is.

Thanks. guess I'll play Torrent Race with these (along with the 3 original Gundam 0079 movies, which I suppose would be better than just watching the original series) and watch 'em in the order they finish.

Destiny's actually pretty awesome until about the last half-coul or so.

I'll give it another shot then. I watched like the first two episodes, and felt pretty much void of interest.

Hey Revolver, you should link to the individual reviews from the first post. I hate digging through your anime topics
