www.hardcoregaming101.net/firemen/firemen.htmI read about this in Retro Gamer a few months back...for some reason, I got confused and mistook it for The Ignition Factor, another fire-fighting game that seemed kinda underwhelming. Apparently the Super Famicom game of The Firemen is pretty good though.

Is this the one with the intelligent, people-hating fire, or was that The Ignition Factor?

Cool. Chris B should dig this. Third paragraph about the first game: Did I write that? I'm like 90% certain that you can't do that. You can, however, backtrack to previous rooms, but not all of the time. MOD: Is this the one with the intelligent, people-hating fire, or was that The Ignition Factor? - HC This is. Though I haven't played Ignition Factor in a long while, so that could possibly have them as well.

This is. Though I haven't played Ignition Factor in a long while, so that could possibly have them as well. Having given that a try last night: Ignition Factor is like a low-rent, firefighter-themed version of Operation Logic Bomb, if you can imagine such a thing. The fires merely sit glumly and wait to be put out, occasionally regenerating back to small, unremarkable patches of flame. - HC

I remember playing this quite a ways back. I didn't know about it until emulation, it(and Terranigma) being a European release and all. I can't remember any by name at the moment, but I could swear there were other firefighting games I've tried out that were just as fun.

Did I write that? I'm like 90% certain that you can't do that. You can, however, backtrack to previous rooms, but not all of the time. The original line was this: "Meaning that if not for the inability to backtrack to previous stages, it would all seem like just one giant area. " I wasn't really sure what that meant? Although re-reading it, it seems like you can't backtrack...but it's still not entirely clear.

It was supposed to mean that your inability to backtrack to previous stages is what keeps it from seeming like "one giant area".

I'm still not sure what that means though? How is it different from a regular linear level-by-level action game?

The sentence prior to it is:
"The entire game takes place in just one highrise, with each of its six levels starting exactly where the last left off."
Meaning that they all run right into each other, with no "transition" between stages. So your only reminder that the whole game isn't just one huge area is the fact that you can't re-enter previous levels.

Isn't there some sort of Konami fire fighting game on the PS2? Maybe you could throw in Burning Rangers and it and have a fire fighting article, just a thought.

This article could have something about Konami's Firefighter F.D. 18 for PS2 (the one megatronbison mentioned) as it's pretty similar to The Firemen games. It even has fires that acts as bosses, complete with HP bars. ;D

Pretty damn good game, SFC game anyhow. Never played the PS sequel. Firemen was one of those "obscure" SFC games I been curious about for 12 years, since I saw it being featured in a 1994 EGM International Outlook piece. Got a chance to finally play it during my 2006 run of the Obscure Super Famicom Games thread. One of the best I've played from those obscure games. www.rvgfanatic.com/6501/46801.htmlI haven't played Ignition Factor extensively yet, but from what little I did play, The Firemen seems to have a better feel and style. EDIT: zzz is correct, you can backtrack IN a level, but not BETWEEN levels. Also, the article may want to add this bit of gameplay info. Pulled from my review: The bomb is your ultimate weapon and up to 3 can be carried. Save them for the bosses! If you have 3 already, and find another bomb, pick it up so you can transform into a super fire fighter with a bigger and stronger spray. There is also a separate icon for this rare powerup*shrug* Might be worth mentioning

I played the shit out of this, and, if I remember correctly, that did not happen when I tried to get a fourth bomb.

It's true, for the SFC version anyhow. Not sure which format you played. I remember it distinctively happening when I played.
