What games do you think were great, but had a terrible soundtrack?

Capcom VS SNK 2 was good fun, but I hated the generic techno shit they threw in. It doesn't even stand up to Third Strike.
Many EA and sports/racing games really strike a nerve with me because they don't even bother composing music for them; they simply license whatever is popular at the moment, which directly clashes with what I want to actually listen to. To transition from Need For Speed: Porsche Unleashed's cool soundtrack to NFS Underground's licensed shit rap collection just hurts me.
And then there's Xevious. Classic tune, but irritating as hell.

Mega Man II for Game Boy. While the game itself is decent, the best way to describe the soundtrack is "Ow, my fucking ears!"

Shadow Hearts: Covenant is a great game but I find the soundtrack to be very weak when compared to anything else this creative team has been involved in (especially the first Shadow Hearts).

Shadow Hearts: Covenant is a great game but I find the soundtrack to be very weak when compared to anything else this creative team has been involved in (especially the first Shadow Hearts). I thought Shadow Hearts: Covenant had an excellent soundtrack, just that the way the game used it for everything outside of battles and events was horrible. At least the Director's Cut sorta fixed this by adding a couple of actual town themes to Europe besides the one used throughout the entire continent. And the one dungeon theme used everywhere. Though at least it was better than From The New World's OST. I don't know what Hirota was smoking when he came up with the South American battle themes, but they're by far the worst in the series, IMO. I find the Tales series' soundtracks to be very lacking. My two favorite games of the series, Abyss and Symphonia, have very mediocre soundtracks outside of a few good battle themes and Abyss' opening theme (with the actual lyrics and not the cheesy guitar that was dubbed over it for the US release). Of course, Legendia had an awesome soundtrack, but failed as a game, so I guess it's impossible to have both. :x I agree with MvC2. Which is why a friend burnt me a copy with a custom soundtrack. Never Gonna Give You Up > Gonna Take You For A Ride. |

Much as it pains me to say it, Strider 2.
he game is awesome--fluid, exciting, full of unexpected twists and turns, but the soundtrack . . .is kinda boring. (except for stage 1-1's theme) Doesn't accomplish what the first Strider's soundtrack managed, which was to add a lot to the atmosphere of each individual stage.
Osman kinda has the same problem, but there's a few tracks in that game that are memorable and very striking, so it kinda gets a pass.

Quest for Glory IV has a great soundtrack. Also correct me if I'm wrong, but the good tracks in Strider 2 are taken almost verbatim from the PCE CD version are they not? |

I will never forget Guardian Heroes' completely inappropriate blaring saxaphone solo... right in the middle of some big fights, too! Treasure games have never been known for great/memorable tunes (Radiant Silvergun is the exception), but the music in Heroes is at least a few notches below their usual mediocre stuff.
