I *love* the soundtracks for Guardian Heroes and Alien Soldier! They're appropriate, in some weird way. I do see that they are a pretty aquired taste though.

They sure are, and they're not at all bad. It's just that everything else about those games somehow manages to outclass the sound design. I will give this credit to GH: I LOVE Valgar's fight music. Super 90's synth rock forever. ;D

Persona 3 does have a... interesting soundtrack, but it's selective. The battle music doesn't quite fit, but you have to give them credit for the catchy School, Autumn and Town themes.

Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines. What little is there is good, but nothing breaks the suspension of disbelieve like going into a club that only plays one song.

Tell you what, i used to loathe the battle theme. It sounded like a can of baked pop song. But a few weeks later i learned to ignore the irritating rapper and i now actually like the theme a lot. I can see why some people also don't like Burn my Bread... err i mean DREAD. Frankly I still don't understand why Shoji Meguro decided to flop off into a more mainstream style of music after DDS: AV2 and SMT3... Sure, Kuzunoha Raidou's soundtrack sounded like P3's, but it's a lot less mainstream-ish. I dunno, maybe Atlus decided, "you know what, I think we've been "mature" for long enough, it's time we sprayed our hairs and wear what teenagers wear".

I *love* the Persona 3 soundtrack. Pretty much every song on it. The battle theme is just plain fantastic, rap section and all. So yeah... definitely disagree with those of you who dislike it. (:
My most standout vote for great game, terrible soundtrack would be Dewprism, a.k.a. Threads of Fate. I enjoyed the game quite a bit, but that soundtrack is just plain AWFUL. Probably my least-favorite Square soundtrack of all time.
Abarenbou Princess is also a notably excellent import title for PS2, but aside from a very small handful of excellent songs (the amazing Shaka Labbits opening theme included), the majority of the soundtrack sounds like it was cobbled together from hentai dating sim rejects. It's entirely generic and uninteresting.
"PAL: Shinken Densetsu" (PAL: Legend of the Holy Dog) on the PS1 is another game that has a bad soundtrack - but in this case, I literally mean the soundtrack CD, not the game's music overall. The actual game has FANTASTIC music, but the soundtrack CD released for it is 100% arranged, and every arrangement is terrible... and well over half the OSV, including every one of the game's 12+ battle themes, is absent from the it.
And finally, another lesser-known import title "UFO: A Day in the Life" on the PS1 has a soundtrack I absolutely cannot STAND listening to. The composer is a guy I really like - Taniguchi Hirofumi, whose track record includes other Love-de-Lic games like Moon, Giftpia, Chulip, Chibi-Robo, and Coloball 2002 - but UFO is far and away his worst soundtrack, consisting of atonal, beatless improvisational jazz works that are just wholly unpleasant. (: There are THREE tracks - literally only three, on the whole soundtrack - that I consider to be relatively average and listenable. And one of them is 30 seconds long.
