This could be a neat idea (albeit that it would be a lot of work and is perhaps an extreme long shot): How about HG101 host the sites that are technically abandoned? Almost like how HG101 has the archived OPCFG? Some of the sites are great and would be terrible if we lost them. The awesome part would be you could have some of the sites that aren't being updated anymore and have on your site that would compliment the articles written on HG101, such as mentioned earlier Golden Axe (if they haven't found anyone) and Ninja Gaiden (although I think Kurt mentioned that he alerted Deuce about the IGN/Gamespy shut down), and other articles like Commander Keen, Gunstar Heroes, StarTropics, Shenmue, Streets of Rage, Rise of the Triad, and Strider. Most of the articles have links to them, and would be cool if it was just on the same site. Again though, I understand that this would be a huge task. I'd be willing to help if I knew even the slightest of what to do. Hell, if this would work, I'd write an article just have the only Sopwith and Ice Hockey site still up! Edit: Final Fight Online has a new host. Also: Hello Fryguy! Welcome to HG101 and congrats on getting a new host for Nintendo Database!

Almost like how HG101 has the archived OPCFG? I guess this is a good a time as any to mention that once the move is complete, the OPCFG archive will be located on Kontek as a sub-directory of the new OPCFG (which really needs an update).

Can I presume that someone happens to know why the HG101 front page has been begging me to download some "readme" PDF file?

Oh shit.
Someone must've hacked the front page. I found a reference to something that shouldn't be there.
I removed it, but anything anything asks you about downloading PDFs, DON'T DO IT.

Someone must've hacked the front page. I found a reference to something that shouldn't be there. well, technically it looks like classicgaming got hit with a sql injection attack. Very common on older sites that use sql to get content from a database without certain protections. But yah, don't download anything it says. Until this is fixed, a few things could happen: 1. The site could get slow as the offending site is blocked and removed as the offending site's ISP shuts down the IP Address. This shouldn't affect the forums unless proboards gets hit (unlikely). 2. The main site will show the "malicious attack site" warning, especially if you use firefox to browse. Assuming you don't click anything you aren't supposed to, it should be safe to bypass it, but if you are using an older version of IE I wouldn't even try it. This will probably affect all of the sites they host.

You know what I don't understand? It affected all three of my sites on Classicgaming, PLUS the Castlevania Dungeon over on kontek.net. And yet none of the files on my computer have that code. What the hell.
At any rate, I fixed it.

This likely comes from a rogue ad banner that is probably getting false-positive detected.

They are only hitting the files marked "index.html". The index files for the Contra HQ and Castlevania Dungeon do not have any ad code.

Month and a half bump, but it's getting down to to the wire for any sites still left hanging. For my part, i've also snatched up Gunstar Heroes Online and F-Mode. The latter was a fucking mess to get together with WinHTTrack skipping a some random files and me having to start all over once after accidentally ruining the whole thing, but I believe I picked up all of it. (Mostly - there's a couple weird instances of files that aren't there anymore...) I'll upload them within a week or so. Those two and SoR Online are the only three I have the patience to rescue, so that's it from me. If there isn't yet a directory of sites moved/mirrored off the Network yet, there ought to be.

I backed up what I could but I've been also messing with Geocities since THEY are going down end of the month too. It's really sad just how many free sites are closing their doors.

I've backed up and transferred all of my gaming sites to Kontek. West Mansion, The Ghoul Realm and the OPCFG (w/ archive) can all be found there now: splatterhouse.kontek.netgng.kontek.netopcfg.kontek.netMy Geocities sites have been backed up in my personal files, but since no one gives a rat's ass about those, I'm not rehosting them.

It has been a long last few months. I have managed to archive over 506 websites from gamespy.

So...the sites are still up. What's going on? (not that I'm complaining)

What was the name of that service that could be used to reconstruct websites from archive.org and the Google cache?
