Actually, those aren't fantasy lands. Those are historical locations as described by the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, which would make a great article, but I think ZZZ is already covering Warriors of Fate, which sort've breaks it all up.

Well yes, but if you consider the contents of the games, they definitely count as fantasy lands to me... If you make a fantasy game set in medieval Germany, with dragons and goblins in it (like Darklands, for example), it isn't any less fantasy.

What about Knights of Valour series and Oriental Legend (which I hate, but still), they play a lot like Capcom's AD&D games and have level ups etc? They are set in Asian fantasy lands instead of western ones, though... Not to mention that level-ups aside, they always felt more to me like Sengoku 3 than the D&D games...

Gotta cover Dungeon Magic and Legend of Makai if you do this.

Gotta cover Dungeon Magic and Legend of Makai if you do this. Er.. I already have Dungeon Magic listed. Legend of Makai? Forgot all about that one. Great example. And yes, Black Tiger works too. Not sure why I left it out. I thought it was a different game.

Gaiapolis How about writing about every Konami beat-em-up? I am willing to offer assistance.

What else is there aside from the two TMNTs, Simpsons and X-Men?

What else is there aside from the two TMNTs, Simpsons and X-Men? There's at least Metamorphic Force, Asterix, Crime Fighters, Vendetta and Violent Storm. No, I didn't remember all of those right away, but I looked at the list of Konami's games at gamefaqs. There most likely are a couple more.

Oh yeah. Metamorphic Force. I love that game. And Violent Storm. That game is hilarious.

There are also a few 3D beat-em-ups that they have made. If we were to stick to their 2D beat-em-ups that would still be quite a few. They may have been the most prolific beat-em-up designer. I could be leaving out a few, but they made at least these: Turtles (Arcade) Turtles III (NES) Turtles in Time Simpsons X-Men Metamorphic Force Asterix Crime Fighters Vendetta Violent Storm Bucky O'HareSurprise AttackWild West C.O.W.-Boys Of Moo MesaAlso " S.P.Y. Special Project Y" could be argued to be a beat-em-up. What about SR and Mystic Warriors? Should those be considered beat-em-ups or run 'n' guns?

How on earth is Surprise Attack a beat'em up? You have no melee attack! Ditto to Sunset Riders and Mystic Warriors. Mystice Warriors has a melee attack per character but it's definitely not intended to be your primary killing method.
To me a beat'em up would be characterized by melee attacks being your primary form of killing enemies in addition to your having more than one melee attack to use (as opposed to something like Shinobi where you have a single attack that can be upgraded once).
As an example, AvP, Sengoku 3, and Shadow Dancer are three games where you can attack either with melee or with projectiles. For my earlier reason though I'd only consider AvP and Segoku 3 beat'em ups as the latter puts a heavier emphasis on platforming and projectiles.

Cowboys of Moo Mesa isn't a beat'em up either, it plays like Sunset Riders.

I have not played SR and Mystic Warriors. That is why I was asking. I have also not played Surprise Attack or COW-boys, but had been told those were beat-em-ups, so I just assumed.

Batman Returns for SNES was a Konami beat-em-up, too.

Yeah I misread your post and took you for the type that skims the name of a rom set and thinks they know everything. That said, Surprise Attack is pretty cool, a dumbed down Shinobi but with catchy music and nice graphics. It wouldn't be out of place in the Shinobi article if a trend is started of including "me too" games and ripoffs in all the articles. SNES Batman Returns totally rocks. It has these sidescrolling platformer segments like Sega's Spider-Man arcade game (without the scaling graphics of course) that are pretty bland but the beat'em up action is great.
