I found it funny that one person on the thread is disappointed that Yie-Ar Kung Fu is mentioned alot but isn't talked about in-depth when there is a seperate article on it on the same site written by the same person who wrote the Pre-Street Fighter II Fighting Games!

Now that I think about it, I should probably toss a link over to that one.

I like it but I can see why people don't. I won't think less of you either way. My stance exactly. I even hesitate to call it a fighting game meself... but then what WOULD it be labeled?

Well, Smash is a fighting game, just not the traditional kind. I don't get why those people don't get it.

Smash is an... interesting case. The best descriptor for it, though, is, yeah, a nontraditional fighting game. I kinda hesitate myself to call it that, but... I guess there's nothing it really would fall into otherwise.

I've called it (and other 4-player fighting games such as Full Metal Alchemist Dream Carnival or those GC Narutos) a "Party Fighter."

I just call it a fighting game-- use the correct move at the correct time and do not get hit to win... like street fighter, virtua fighter, tekken, soul calibur, king of fighters, samurai shodown... etc. etc... smash bros just has that "nintendo flavor." shifting stages, funky rules and a roster of characters people can relate to.

Smash Bros. is unique, but it is definitely a fighting game, if not a traditional fighting game. If you follow the tournament scene, there is definitely an upper tier of players.
If your only experience playing this game is with friends/family in your boondock little town, that's cool. If you think you can hang with these tourney regulars, you are sadly mistaken.

Also, this write up has been posted here at Nintendo Database. It also got posted here at Shoryuken.com, and amazingly it got a lukewarm, but ultimately positive response.

It took me long enough, but that shitty paragraph about Pit-Fighter finally got rewritten. In case, by any chance, anybody gives a shit.
