This sort of thing sounded creepy to me when I was younger, but it's honestly true. The older you get, the less important an age difference is. So long as you have the same interests and core values, it's all good in the hood.

Honestly, creative output is the most rewarding thing ever in comparison to mind numbing work you loathe. Which is why it really sucks for those of us who have absolutely NO creative talents at all.

Nine working days until I'm officially unemployed. I'm kind of debating whether this is actually something for the "stuff that makes you happy" thread, though, because the last nine years have really sucked at this place.
It's just scary as hell to think about being unemployed.

I was unemployed for about a year and a half. It wasn't too bad because I got to collect unemployment. The worst part was the boredom after the first couple months.
Will you be able to get another job in the same field or what?

It's possible, but I'm the kind of person who likes to only deal in absolutes. I really, really hate taking chances if I can just go with what I know. Glad you were able to find new work, though. Especially after so long of a gap.
As for occupying my time...take a look at my Backloggery. My wife has actually begun writing up a list of "chores" for me, since she'll still be working while I'm unemployed. Que lastima.

I fail to see the problem with the part I bolded out. But yeah, I feel the same way you do about time, and wanting to do things you're passionate about. My brother got me back into drawing again a couple of years ago after about a ten year hiatus. I have made no progress at all because of work, and generally being too tired to draw, learn Japanese, work out, or do any of the other stuff I want to do. Ah I don't mean to sound ungrateful to be honest - she constantly points out that this should be a good thing but I just feel creepy when I realise she was born in the 90's. I was playing Ninja Gaiden before she was born and that makes me wanna vomit I'm hearing you on the missing working out thing btw- I used to be getting 2-3 nights a week and now since I was promoted I rarely get at all. It's a bit of a pain cause I really need it to fight depression - I'll never be buff but my mental health is more important than that really and office work really taxes your mental health as much as chilling with any of the old ones... Also- embrace your artistic talent! I wish I could draw. Honestly, creative output is the most rewarding thing ever in comparison to mind numbing work you loathe. Hope you don't get into too much shit with your employer over the smashy-smash! Haha, sorry, no offense intended...I forgot to put a " ;p " after that statement. I know some people poo-pooh relationships with age differences but I really don't see what the problem is as long as the two people get along and have stuff in common beyond a need to fuck. But yeah, it's important to have your hobbies outside of work and maintain those (and your friendships) because otherwise you're just living to work. And unfortunately I find myself doing that more often than not. Working for a living, living for a working, I'm taking what they're giv...sorry. As for the whole breaking the thing thing, it seems to have worked out ok, my bosses were understanding because I owned up to it and had done research on getting a replacement. I'm also going to see if they can fix the broken one, although that means sending it to a plant in Dublin (Shankill it says) to see if it's fixable or not . In response to Jason's situation, just keep positive. If anything you'll probably find a better job. I learned that I'd put up with a lot of shit at my first job that I shouldn't have, and ended up finding my current place of employment on a whim.

Of course, you could also end up like me: unemployed for upwards of four years, long enough for the government to actually quit paying your unemployment benefits. (Hopefully going to college will get me a leg up on the pile, so to speak...)

Well, I wasn't going to mention it, but since you brought it up...Your situation is actually the exact thing I'm terrified of. I think I started posting on here back in 2008, and you haven't been able to find work in that whole time. Not that I'm trying to be down about your situation, it's just something that has me worried.

Well, at least the government is still willing to help out, in the form of the FAFSA Pell Grant, which is effectively paying for my college. (Now, just to figure out what to do with my time for the next month before my term starts...)

Jason- fingers crossed you find something. Sadly I think the situation for job hunting is pretty poor on a global scale these days unless you fancy working in a call centre Best of luck dude!

Not to add to any fear, but I've been struggling to find decent full-time work for over a year and a half. Job hunting is a rough scene right now, but it's definitely a YMMV situation.

Lawyers. Specifically the ones I have to deal with at my job. Pushy, aggressive, borderline bullying behavior; try to use shark-like "blood in the water" tactics (combined with "Don't you know who I am? I'm an attorney!") to get what they want even if it's just not consistent with our internal procedures.
