I think that's a bit objective. Just the kind of people your friends, family and co-workers are should speak volumes about how much importance you should place on their so-called "respect". Some people are impossible to please or put pressures on their kin in order to live vicariously through them or so they themselves can feel more happy/successful for helping produce success in someone they are invested in. They don't sound too supportive, or perhaps you are getting internally caught up in things that they are not noticing, understanding or validating so they instead try to push you towards the typical things that people consider to be a common measure of happiness and success. I can say that in the case of my family, they've never really 'pushed' anything so much as remind me that I'm a disappointment over and over. And that other people I've known for a long time tend to let it be known that they find me to be an embarrassment to them. I had a discussion with two friends of mine (a husband/wife pair) over the weekend, and they criticized me over being anti-social and 'ditching' them for years. When I had to explain to them that over that period of time they mentioned, I wasn't being invited to or even informed of any of the things they'd cited, the husband (but not the wife) seemed to have a hard time believing it, as it just didn't fit the mental picture he'd built up in his head of the sort of person he thought I was (while throwing in a qualifying "but you're better now" at the end to attempt to save his skin). He said everyone else we knew also thought of me in those negative terms. I found this to be hurtful, and let him know that. I get that I have issues with being as mature as I probably should be, but I've also seen that with a lot of people that I know personally, they're just putting up a front, and they have their own weirdness issues that they try to cover up. It's just my family that's incredibly staid and stoic. As for my co-workers, they think I'm borderline mentally-handicapped. One can say that I shouldn't care what anybody else thinks, but there comes a point where if so many people have a negative outlook, I have to conclude that since I'm the only constant, that I'm the problem. And yeah, that bothers me.

If you can - consider relocating - a different state, city - whatever. It may sound impossible but really- it'll give you some goal to aim for in the meantime at least. Try to start afresh - obviously you'll have your own issues with yourself to sort through but by the sounds of things your family are never going to change and are more of a hindrance than a help. A good friend supports and encourages one to change - people that are mocking you openly and acting like you are a burden to them? That isn't really friendship.

Moving out of my parents is what pretty much eliminated drama from my life. I let go of the bad friends and keep my family at arms length. It was tough at first but now I can't imagine my life any other way and I think I've done much better for it.

So I just got a spoiler for Sly 4. Penelope from Sly 3 becomes a villain. I liked Penelope. She was cute.

Cars. They are endless sources of trouble. I want my jetpack that we were promised in the 50's. They said we'd have them by now!

I hate exclusive preorder bonuses at Gamestop. I had no idea there was one for Fire Emblem, and apparently it's more difficult to come by than the game at present. Yet, apparently managers at certain Gamestops are stealing copies from preorders. Just one of the many reasons I fucking hate that chain.

É hate all these younger guys who used to watch anime like crazy they don't anymore (apart from 2-3 mainstream ones a la Code Geass) yet they insist to keep spamming with quotes like "The new anime sucks!" without watching even one of them. And I don't even talk about older guys who were watching many kinds of anime since early '80s but these young ones who were watching mainstream ones like Dragonball and Digimon and they think they're the best shows of the universe. Stop pretending to be oldfriends! You're not! You're just some annoying brats who like to act cool! And yeah, Digimon Adventure is overrated. Later Digimon anime like Tamers are much, much better (apart from Frontier which sucks).
And no, AVATAR IS NOT AN ANIME!

People who freak out over trivial issues piss me off.

And is it so bad to get pissed off over "trivial issues" like geek stuff? Otherwise, the most posts of this thread are meaningless as well.
