Forum moderation rant.
I moderate the ZDoom forums. As with any forum where there is a lot of new users every week, I get to deal with some pretty random and unsavory characters from time to time. Perhaps the worst was a fellow by the name of BossHoss. (I am not changing his name here. I feel he deserves the negative reputation.)
BossHoss began life by posting a thread asking how you run ZDoom. He sounded a little angry and frustrated, but I don't blame him, because he said he was used to HL2 mods at this point. A quick link to the ZDoom wiki should have straightened him out a little, but then he went on a rant about how it was his wife that got him into Doom and how he had no idea how she was able to use such a shitty interface. Everyone on the forum was very quick to help him out, explain everything to him, etc. but it was Ceeb's remark that made him think that everyone on the forum was against him.
When I tried to iron out the situation, BossHoss returned again, renamed his thread to "THREAD CLOSED, ACLU NOTIFIED" and sent several angry private messages admin-ward. He claimed that the forum populace called him a lesbian (I was merely trying to tell people that he was not a girl, because he mentioned having a wife) and that this was a blatant breach of civil rights. He did everything short of claim his First Amendment rights and threaten to take us to court.
Needless to say, an IP ban was in order. After which BossHoss apparently started forwarding the automated "you have been banned" emails back to the sender, which in this case was the NoReply address used by the forum software. Bwah. Some people don't get it.
And another thing: while opinions on abandonware are mixed at best (I don't mind it myself), ZDoom's rules state that such links should not be distributed. I have to nuke a lot of links because of this, and people naturally get pissed because they think Doom 2 is abandonware. Uh, no.

I do hope this has nothing to do with anything that I said. My snide remark was made purely in the viewpoint of gameplay, not graphics. However, do not feel reluctant to tel me how I am wrong, for I can accept that I am imperfect. Nah, nothing to do with anyone here. As I said, everyone here on the forums has been very mature and it's been a discussion, rather than things simply resorting to "You're a Girl!" It just reminded me that I've had that type of thing happen, and it pisses me off to be discredited on viable opinions, or complaints, because I'm female.

I can relate.
When playing brawlers or fighting games, I almost always go with the female characters, because they're usually faster, and I prefer the speedy characters over the tanks, but there's always gotta be one frat boy in the crowd who has to pipe in and say "yeah sure, you just wanna look at her tits!"

Well, you'd think the female would know a thing or two about breasts, though, wouldn't you?

You know, I think I've heard this while watching male players before. But it's true, the females tend to be much faster than most the male characters, just as a lot of the male characters tend to have more length than the females. I use both speed and length, so you will find me usuing a variety. Dooz: You'd think, but I've actually had an artist friend who got scolded for big-hipped women because it was 'unrealistic' even though all the girls the group knew said it wasn't. Oh well.

This reminds me of a friend of mine who exclusively plays female characters in any kind of game, to the point where I've begun to wonder if maybe he "wish[es] to be the little girl" so to speak. But then, maybe I'm not one to speak, as I almost always play big beefy grapplers and stereotypically manly or GAR characters, which could also be seen as wish fulfillment.

Yeah, I know two brothers who just love them female characters. We always joke about there being a female character quota, and sometimes if it doesn't meet it, they don't like the game.

Do you know what pisses me off? Nobody will show me the password to the laptop. So I'm here, at 5am, no sleep, doing nothing. And y'know what happens when I wake up my sister to either tell me the password or type it in? She yells. At 5am. SHRIEKS the fuck out of the house, and god damn, if it didn't wake everybody up (it did).
Christ almighty, if you gave me the password this wouldn't be a problem. Fucking dramatics. She woke my mom up (along with everyone else) and my mom typed it in for me, giving this huge rant about manipulating people and how my sister does that and she learned it from her grandmother, and it is 5am and I should have been asleep.
Well, hey, I'm the insomniac, y'know, so y'know, maybe I had trouble sleeping? Fuck. I just wanted to go on the computer, since my bro wouldn't let me use the one in our room because he's sleeping.
Jeez, it was 8pm yesterday, I was playing Spelunky, bastard is talking about how he's "going to sleep, fuck off". Uh, hey, y'know, it's 8, buddy. I can go on the computer in my room. Hell it is MY computer, on MY side of the room.
Go sleep in a dumpster, asshole.
Needless to say, I'm tired and pissed.

I hate Google maps API shit. It makes me want to bang my head on the desk until it bleeds. This shit is confusing. And if I made a “my map” with like 30 markers with information on it already when can’t I just embed that with the side bar of links into a webpage? Why must I fuck around with JavaScript and have to redo every marker I have created this time only I need to know the latitude and longitude of all the addresses to place the markers and then put all the info in an xml file. This is way to fucking complicated for something that seems like you could make so easy. ARGH!!!!!

Fanboys.
I read some older posts on the HG101 blog, and one of them was particularly ignorant, regarding the Yakuza 3 translation and how they "ZMOG BUTCHERED IT FUCK SEGA CRUCIFY THEM CRUCIFY THEM." I guess I'm bitter because I've been having a lot of fun with the game and for once I'm playing devil's advocate instead of being the bitter nerd; thing is though, the post in question was really reactionary and didn't do more than list all the cut missions before comparing Yakuza 3 to the videogame equivalent of "Warriors of the Wind" (the butchered/repurposed "Nausicaa" movie), which doesn't even apply. If anything, it just came off as ignorant.
Then again I just remembered I'm on the internet.

Some people don't get it. The rest of the post is golden, but this bit in particular is revealing. If he can't even figure out no-reply automated email, how is he supposed to run Doom?

Being volunteered for something that you are good at but shouldn't necessarily have to do.
In this case, my sister calls me asking about the state of my last computer. One of the hard drives is dead making it a fancy paperweight until I can replace it, but she asks if I could fix it and give it to her friend. I said no, and then she asks me if I could look at her friend's computer. I say I have to think about it first, and she asks why. I basically tell her that she's not my friend, so I shouldn't be obligated to do technical support just because I can.
I know that's a bit of a dick move, but she really frustrates me sometimes. She often volunteers me for things without really asking. I don't mind most of the time, but in cases like this where she's basically asking me to donate my old computer, it ticks me off. This isn't the first time I've had to bail one of her friends out. I'm wary of doing so since she rarely repays me.
I love her a lot but it can be frustrating.

If anything, it just came off as ignorant. Sad thing, he IS ignorant. Nausicaa and Warriors of the Wind were actually EXTREMELY similar. Really, the story was not all that rewritten between the Japanese and English. I seem to recall being surprised when I saw the Japanese that the English had been kept basically intact. The largest difference? A removed sequence that would have made no sense to anyone who hadn't read the manga.

It's true, eh? It's like people don't even like video games anymore, and instead just shit all over things they dislike.
