Waaaat. I'd heard that ISPs were trying to get a law passed to allow them to do that sort of thing, but hadn't heard if it was pushed through. That's really, really depressing.

Yeah, it just started monday :/. Time Warner did this about two years ago (but with a much lower cap), and people protested like hell, which caused them to lift it. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like people are protesting much this time. And if it sticks, expect Verizon and other companies to follow suit... and it's obvious that this is to cut into Netflix's bottom line and promote their U-verse cable shit (also, I think they have a stake in Dish Network). It just pisses me off because in the past, the only way your average consumer would exceed this kind of limit (150 GB or 250 GB a month) is if they were pirating a lot of shit. But with HD streaming videos and such, it's really not that hard to go over that limit doing legal operations. I just hope that Netflix offers a way to change your video quality on the fly for the PS3 and 360 streaming services.

It amazes me how much contempt for its customers AT&T has. From their shitty mobile service to eliminating unlimited data plans in favor of relatively more expensive limited plans, I can't see why anyone would willingly use their services. Especially now that Verizon has the iPhone. Verizon's customer service is just as awful as AT&T, but at least you can make a phone call without it breaking off.

At the moment I'm sticking with AT&T internet because in my region there's not many alternatives (thanks in part to it being their base of operations). I'd grab FIOS in a heartbeat but they've totally neglected the North Dallas area. My brother has FIOS and loves it. That, and cable modem service is still more expensive (and really unreliable, according to a friend of mine that lives nearby who has issues with his). I'm just in the wrong place.... As for the iPhone, I've still got the unlimited data plan, and until Verizon fixes the talk & surf issue I'm hesitant to switch back to them. That, and after 6 months of trying to get back $600 from Verizon I'm not in that much of a hurry to return (not that cutting loose from AT&T would/will be any easier). I just love how I bitch about the evil empires but don't have a problem keeping them in business. Also apparently AT&T wants to merge with T-Mobile, returning us to the days of Ma Bell's monopoly.

Yeah, T-Mobile's parent company wants to sell the US Branch to AT&T. Though it's going to have to be approved by the government. I really hope it doesn't go through. T-Mobile seems like one of the few cell phone companies that doesn't have utter contempt for its customers.

I really, really, really hope that it doesn't go through; there's just not enough competition in the market as it is, and if they're out of the game all bets are off. This and the internet thing just kind of get me, because our market is just getting narrowed down to the point where we're like in Demolition Man and all restaurants are Taco Bell. It's bad enough as it is, where most food companies are owned by a parent corporation but kept in play just to make it seem like things are fair.

I failed the exam and I have Coca-Cola Zero instead of the original. Worst day ever. Last time I was this depressed when Leslie Nielsen died.

You're right actually, but I was thinking of recent history. Its really, really been a while since I've actually been depressed. Probably last time was in high school.

The data cap is pissing me off so bad. My grandmother decided for some stupid reason we should get AT+T DSL here because it's cheap and came with phone service after we moved and it's already a terrible plan. I kept getting throttled randomly, pages would randomly not load (refreshing helped), I would disconnect randomly when torrenting (and even managing sane upload/download speeds didn't help), it's limiting even in direct download speed, and the worst thing I think was I needed the modem/router's permission to browse when we first got it hooked up. It would say we were connected but only allow us to use anything once it said we could. I don't like that at all; makes me feel watched and untrusted.
And then this shit. 150 fucking GB a month. My brother practically lives and breathes on streaming services, including legit stuff we pay for like Netflix, and he's pissed he has to start being more careful about it. I'm pissed he has to because we pay actual money for this. I stream music a lot. I know these of themselves don't use a lot of bandwidth but it does add up. I don't think even at our worst he and I could hit the cap every month, but the fact it exists and I have to monitor it now is beyond disgusting. This is barely viable in an age where streaming is king and efficient.
All because someone wants more money to line their pool with platinum instead of just regular yellow gold. Fuck AT+T.

Why is it that every site on the entire goddamn Internet has to be all about "social networking"? I hate it enough already that many sites require me to register an account to use them at all, but it's even worse when said websites are always pestering me about people who realized I had an account on said site and want to be my friend.
I'm a man who picks his friends carefully. No real reason for it. So it pisses me off to see the Facebook kiddies with their 500+ friends, complaining that there is a LIMIT on the number of friends they can have (uh, do you even PERSONALLY KNOW these people, or are you just stating for the world to see that you are FRIENDS WITH A FUCKING GOLF GAME?!).
But back to sites that are trying too hard to be facebook: I routinely get at least 20 friend invites and private messages on Youtube every month, usually offering some kind of "sub4sub." I tend to reply to said messages by sending them my "Youtube is not Facebook" video. I really shouldn't need to say it. I see Youtube as a place where I can upload and watch videos. I see Steam as a place I can play games. I see Backloggery as a place where I can keep track of my collection and tag the games I've beaten. None of those places really strike me as the kind of place where I'd be able (or willing) to meet and befriend new people, and given how little of my personality you're really getting from my Steam profile (which, to the best of my recollection, consists entirely of "I DO NOT ACCEPT RANDOM FRIEND/GROUP INVITES!"), I'm not sure anybody that wants to be my friend on Steam even really means it, or if they're just looking for someone to be their Zoey in the evening's Left 4 Dead Realism Expert Mode run (by the way, I am so fucking done with that game, but that's a rant for another day).
