Weasel- I know it is but that isn't the point! It should be running better but apparently it was solely optimised for consoles- kinda ironic given the series origings... Anyways I done some patch hunting and settings tweaking- I can now run it with everything set to max bar shadows which are on medium and that gives me a consistant 60fps (50fps if the shadows are on high). This times a billion - I kinda forgot why I had given up on PC gaming until I remembered all the patching crap.

Me too. I just bought a new PC pretty much just so I could play The Witcher after having owned it for like 3 years only to find out that this PC can't run it at anything approaching an acceptable framerate even at minimum settings.
On the plus side, this computer runs Bastion near perfectly, so there's that! And Ys Origin soon.

Funnily enough The Witcher is one that seems to be running okay for me. Man- PC gaming is a mess like that. I know PC gamers always defend it with a "durr it's better when you patch it!" but patching and tweaking is a chore.

There was also the issue of the fact that even when I ran the game in administrator mode, the computer told me that I had to run the game in administrator mode to play. I wasted about 3 hours trying to get the game to work by searching various internet forums* for a solution only to find out the game played like shit anyway.
*every forum post or yahoo answers or whatever:
OP: "Hey, I'm having an issue with Game X. I'm getting error XXXX when I try to start the game and I'm not sure what's causing it. I've tried X, Y and Z, but none of these are fixing my problem. Here are my system specs."
every post after: "omfg get a better computer" "ur vid card sux dude. are you poor?" "*link to an offsite guide that is no longer hosted with no further explanation*" "Dear OP, [describes a procedure already confirmed not to work]"

One thing that's really been pissing me off lately is when people try to do the "tangentally related hint-dropping", where they really don't want to be subtle about something, but they "pretend" to be subtle by bringing up a subject every now and then, but trying to put a saran-wrap-transparent layer of distance between themselves and the subject, because they want people to ask them about it instead of just coming out and saying what they mean.
That just comes off as another form of attention-whoring, to me.

Seems like you post a lot of grievances in this thread, Kitsune. Are there just a lot of assholes in your life?

I'm worried it comes across like that when I mention my band to people- however I don't think I have ever mentioned my band to people in the past 3 years in a remotely positive context so I am hoping they just take the hint to acknowledge it's existence but leave the topic alone from that :\ *every forum post or yahoo answers or whatever: OP: "Hey, I'm having an issue with Game X. I had that problem a good few years back with the Command & Conquer Collection and then I had it this time around with Skyrim. It's almost as bad when it comes to getting emulator stuff going too- people can be so obnoxious and ignorant on help threads I honestly wonder why people bother posting queries anymore.

No way, I bitch about stuff way more than he does.
It's good to have a thread to vent though.

There are different levels of tact that are employed in different situations, and some people are, uh, less good at it than others. Do you have specific examples of this that you'd care to share?

I'm not really intending to call anybody out (especially as there's nobody here to call out about anything), it's not something endemic to this board. And for all I know, I might actually be off the mark. Maybe they really think they are being legitimately subtle, and I'm just more perceptive than I'm giving myself credit for. As far as specifics, it's a subject I don't want to breach in public, and I think that probably says quite a bit in and of itself.

Then it's almost exclusively that last one there. But hey, I actually found someone on the internet who knows how to get Sonic R running on 64-bit Windows 7 for fast machines (involves a couple minor regedits), so that's good.

...the idea that carrying guilt over something that someone else did, somehow will lead to evening out some soft of karmic or justice scale.
It won't.
Bad things may have happened to People A, B, C, and D (none of whom deserved it), but allowing Person E to do something bad to Person F (who doesn't deserve it) in order to "tip the scales back" won't stop something bad from happening to Person G.
So there's no need for you to feel like you're somehow complicit in what happened to A, B, C, and D.
