Ah yes, he did that voice. I've totally forgotten about that. I think it's worth the mention.

I agree. I always found that pretty amazing... he has a hell of a range as a voice actor. Talented, talented man.
It's also worth noting, I think, that Junko Kawano - the game's writer/director, who's also known for writing the stories for the Suikoden games - plays the voice of the cat. Like, she's the one meowing. And no, I'm not kidding. (:

Haha, is that in the credits? If not, I'd like to see a reliable source before including it, just in case it's a rumor.
On Charles Martinet, here's an update for the paragraph to mention the man:
Sound effects sound very artificial, but the voices are overall fitting very well, if not always quite convincingly acted, and especially Homunculus sounds totally creepy, and he's voiced by Charles Martinet, of all things, who most people should know from the immortal phrase "It's a me! Mario!". Eike sounds a bit like a wuss, though.

Yep, it's in the game's credits. Cat voice: Junko Kawano, or something of the sort. It's no rumor!

I love the fact that real world photos were included alongside for comparison.
Anyway, I've always wanted to play this, so after reading that I bought it!

Is there any other way? Don't you think your readers know what an adventure game is?

Nice job on the article. While the Time Hollow article may require expansion I'm in total agreement that compared to Shadow of Destiny it's total crap.

Is there any other way? Don't you think your readers know what an adventure game is? I did not write a definition of what is an Adventure game. I did write to which degree Shadow of Memories follows this definition. If I remember right, the following paragraph talks about things you'd expect from an adventure game, where Shadow of Memories is lacking. I don't quite follow how this could be misunderstood, but I'm taking your alternative suggestions to open that paragraph.

To me the sentence sounded a bit condescending (specially the "you're supposed to solve your problems using your head."). As if you doubt readers of your article know enough about what adventure games consist of. I know you didn't mean it like that though.
Should you think about revising then consider breaking up, replacing or removing that last part of the complex sentence from the paragraph. Say their puzzles are difficult or brain teasing in a manner similar to old adventure games (or something along those lines).

I didn't really find it offensive. Most puzzle-based games have either blatantly obvious solutions, or require the use of a walkthrough. Shadow of Destiny was pretty logical with most of its roadblocks, though, and I really respect that.

Nice article. Totally agreed on the sentiment that objectively speaking, there are a lot of problems with this game as an early system title and the lack of polish, but the story and unique approach to the adventure genre are really great. Also, aside from Planescape: Torment, I can't think of any other games that incorporate your deaths into the plot so directly (and not just in the video game cliche of being forced into fights you must lose for the story to progress) and interestingly.
I do actually like the kinds of Butterfly Effect time travel stories where the protagonist keeps trying to change the past and causes new unforeseen problems, upon which he tries to fix them again, causing more ripples, as so on. What I loved about Shadow was that it does inspire you to replay the game several times, but they can be pretty different. There were several scenes I completely missed on my first and second or even third playthroughs. The final ending you can get after seeing the others blew me away (but I didn't know the story of Faust so well), shedding a lot of new light on the whole story, even the "fake" or non-canonical elements.

I strongly suggest adding a link to this playthrough of the game. For those who don't feel like tracking a copy down or waiting for the PSP version, it covers pretty much all of the main narrative except the more downbeat of the two special ultimate endings.

Hmm, would it help to replace "as" in that sentence with "in that"? Generally, Shadow of Memories would be considered as an adventure game, in that there's no action elements and you're just supposed to solve your problems using your head. I'm possibly lacking in Sprachgefühl a bit, here.
