Ah, my bad. I didn't notice, I thought it was about a new figurine or something. S'okay. I don't think there's going to be any new figurines related Project Diva anytime soon, unless I have my figma hang around game-related stuff again.

Dunno if anyone realized this, but Project Diva PSP just had a downloadable expansion released. It's pretty awesome - adds a bunch of songs (unfortunately only as installable MP3s and edit data, though, which is kinda ghetto!), as well as a retro mini-game called "Hello Planet" that's actually pretty cool! Not only is it a fun 8-bit-style platformer, it's also got a KICKIN' 8-bit-style soundtrack - truly some of the best retro music I've heard in a VERY long time. The gameplay is pretty varied (though the game is rather short), and it has an oddly depressing story about the end of the world following a nuclear holocaust (!). Yeah... not what I expected from a Hatsune Miku game! The subtitle is something like "The last love song from our planet." The story is told to you through letters Miku receives in her mailbox from the last man on Earth, and the game's ending... well, let's just say it ends on a pretty somber note! It's worth noting in your article, though - especially since there's apparently going to be ANOTHER expansion next month, featuring a bunch of new songs by the OTHER Vocaloids. And personally, I think it's worth the 2000 yen for this song alone: Absolutely positively THE most fun song in the entire game thus far. (: -Tom

So uh, I don't normally do this, but since there doesn't (yet) exist a soundtrack for the "*Hello, Planet!" minigame in the Project Diva expansion, I... uh... ripped all the music from it to WAV, and uploaded it to SendSpace. (: www.sendspace.com/file/nzdopbIt's really, really good 8-bit-esque fare. Give it a listen! -Tom

Quick Question about this game. Is this game hard? I was thinking of buying it but only if Id be able to get anywhere in the game. Im not terrible at music games but I can not do ones that fling a few buttons at once at you at fast speeds.

The expansion songs are pretty hard, but the ones actually on the UMD are pretty easy - even the hardest song in the game on the hardest skill level isn't much of a challenge for someone who's even remotely skilled at music games like these, and the easy mode songs are all RIDICULOUSLY easy.
You do need rhythm, though, as the window of time for actually hitting each button seems pretty small compared to a lot of other music games. If you're off even slightly, it'll break your combo with a "SAFE" rating (the ratings range is COOL, FINE, SAFE, SAD, and MISS, and only COOL and FINE count toward your combo). But even with its unforgiving timing, you'll at least be able to PASS every song, I think, AT LEAST on easy mode, most likely on normal mode, and probably even on hard mode.
As an aside, BTW, I noticed last night when playing a few songs that Project Diva actually allows for some degree of improvisation, for some reason. Like, if you're asked to do a quick button combo consisting of, say, O, X, square, and triangle in rapid succession, and you instead hit X, square, triangle, and O, it WON'T NECESSARILY count as four misses - you might get a "COOL!" rating written in red instead of yellow, which seems to give you more points (?) than a normal COOL rating. Very weird!

Hmmm... I actually rather like that theme! You call it bland, but I find that when themes are too "busy," it makes navigating the XMB more of a chore. Simple and elegant is exactly what a theme should be, and that looks to be exactly what the Miku one is!
And by "not so nice things," do you mean the expansion songs, Hello Planet, or both? I can understand having not so nice things to say about the expansion songs, as they DO seem pretty cheap (even if Uraomote Lovers is like, the funnest song EVER!)... but Hello Planet is freaking awesome, and that alone is worth the price of admission! It may be short, but man is it ever sweet... I've probably replayed it a good 4 or 5 times already. (:

You're putting words into my mouth. You don't even know what I would consider a good theme is. You're assuming it's a "busy" one, which it definitely isn't.
In general, there's something that always irks me with premium themes for any interface that's not the default one the system boots you up with, and this is no exception. I'm... not going to go into it since your mind's already set to liking it and it's just going to end up like with the loading times issue with the PSP.
There's more to it than just the additional songs, but like I said already, I'll save that for the article. Just wait.

I'm not trying to put words in your mouth at all, dude! I just clicked on the link, liked what I saw, and said as much. I don't know all the details, and I don't claim to! I haven't EVER installed a new theme on my PSP - I have a wallpaper image I made back at launch that I'm still using today. It's been my PSP wallpaper ever since I bought the system, and I doubt I will EVER change it. But if I did, I'd probably look for a nice, simple, elegant theme. Whether or not I'd ultimately like it, I can't say... but from that screenshot, my initial impression is that yes, I probably would.
I do look forward to the article. I just hope you don't bust on Hello Planet! (:

I hope Project Diva 1 becomes cheap soon, so I can finally get it.
I feel like a bad rhythm gamer for not owning it.

You're not. (: Honestly, it has more appeal for Miku fans than it does as a rhythm game. As much as I love it, I can't deny that it's sloppily-programmed and generally rather clunky.
But it still gets more playtime from me than any other game, right now. (:

Only just discovered this article by seeing the bumped forum topic.
I've not read too far into this (though having listened to the WAHP podcasts on vocaloids I'll probably come back here to brush up on my knowledge), but I really like the design of it, including images in links to other pages and the main index.
Also, I clicked on the names of the authors. When did HG101 publish the Record of Rozen War article? I love overhead arena shooters, so I can't believe I missed it!
