I recently bought on Steam a Japanese indie title for only 0.74€ and was pleasantly surprised! One Way HeroicsBasically it's a procedurally generated tile-based roguelike, but the gimmick is that the left part of the screen is constantly devoured by "the darkness" so you constantly have to go forward, so you have to be on your toes and not lose too much time on exploring dungeons, talking with merchants etc., plus the weight limit is pretty strict at least at the beginning so you can't pick up everything either. It's easy to lose, but it puts emphasis on going further and further every time, so that you gain more and more "Hero Points" that can be used to unlock other classes or specific perks and there's also a "dimensional vault" where you can store items between playthroughs. Everything in the game including the engine (minus the music) was produced by some guy named "Smoking WOLF" (no relation to Guitar Wolf from Wild Zero, I think), the graphics are tiny and low-quality 16 bit icons but it can be excused. Even when the roguelike genre is starting to get stale, there still are some hidden little nice titles.

The Suffering used to be free too, but it seems it has been pulled.

The Suffering used to be free too, but it seems it has been pulled. I think I know why its because Warner bros owns the franchise now

Indie games: Amanita design- A czech studio that develops graphically beautiful and atmospherically silent adventure games in flash, most notable examples being Samorost 2, Machinarium and Botanicula. Official website: amanita-design.net/Free games: Fish Fillets- A hardcore puzzler with charming graphics and music, originally released in 1998 by Altar Interactive (a czech studio) and made free and open source in 2004. The game ranges for very easy to extremely difficult, when it came out the devs promised a brand new pc to the first person to finish the game. Out of the thousands of people that played the game, in the first year only SIX people managed to beat it. I largely recommend getting the original version, the open source one has a few "additions" that completely ruin the charm of the game, these are: cheat codes don't work, there are 10 new levels that are absolutely terrible, the game does not have a side window and you cannot open the in-game instruction manual. Also my favorite game ever. Download open source version: fillets.sourceforge.net/Download original version: uloz.to/xBLKGRh/fish-fillets-1-rarSleepteam- There was a little czech studio that existed since 1998 that made a few interesting games, the czech versions were free, the english ones costed about a dollar. Their site: www.sleepteam.com/Direct download for Bulánci (Combat Pillows) which is probably their best game, it is the czech version since I did not find the english one- sleepteam.com/download/bulanci.exeFive Magical Amulets- An amazing kid-friendly adventure game, good puzzles, music, graphics, everything. Honestly this game could be 20 dollars on steam and it would not surprise me, the quality is top notch. The game runs in the Wintermute Engine (WME), the same engine that runs The White Chamber and a few other games. The czech studio that made this game way back is making a comeback with a new game, it does not work on my pc though so I cannot comment on it. Dev site: offstudio.cz/new/index.php?option=com_content&view=category&layout=blog&id=1&Itemid=45&lang=enGame: offstudio.cz/new/index.php/en/five-magical-amulets.htmlSosaci- Yes, another czech studio. They made some cool free stuff, but most of the translation is VERY poor, they have not been doing anything since around 2011 and their best game- Little World- does not run on Win Vista or higher. They are still worth checking out and they even respond in their guestbook. sosaci.cz/indexEN.htmlCat Planet- A platformer game where you-CAT PLANET CAT PLANET CAT PLANET CAT PLANET CAT PLANET CAT PLANET CAT PLANET CAT PLANET CAT PLANET CAT PLANET CAT PLANET CAT PLANET CAT PLANET CAT PLANET CAT PLANET Download: ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-16/?action=preview&uid=1081That is everything from the top of my head right now. Might dump later with more stuff if I find anything.

George1's post reminds me how much I am hyped for Samorost 3. That said, Cat Planet looks cute.

MOAR: Becherovka game competition: There used to be a little competition held in Czech Republic, the goal was to make a game that would promote the alcoholic liquor Becherovka (which has a tradition in Czech Republic), one of the rules was that all games have to be available in english so I guess I can post it here, most of them have a hilariously bad translation though and the website is only in czech, you can just click the year 2000-2007 icons and instantly download the games. Website: game.becher.cz/One studio was pretty good with these games, I think they still make commercial stuff (mostly in flash), the best stuff they made though ale completely free adventure games and they also worked on Axel & Pixel, a nice cartoony adventure game and also the first game on xbox (360) to be available in czech language, it is also on steam for five bucks (I think) so you should give it a try if you have some money spare and liked the other games by them. The games are obviously also available in the english language (well, some of them). Destination Sol. It is free,on Steam and sourceforge, and is a lot of fun. It is a simple, mindless space game. you have a ship, can upgrade it, buy better ships, explore the galaxy, which gives a kinda rpg esque feel. The fun part for me, it has asteroids style thrust controls, which was surprising. not complex, but surprising and fun. Desination Sol

Average Maria Individual is a satire of Super Mario Bros as well as a commentary on traditional gaming models. I don't generally like artsy games like this, but It was just short enough and interesting enough for me to play it all the way through (about 10 minutes). alicemaz.itch.io/average-maria-individual

... guess that's the difference. I can't play games if they are unfun.
