I already wrote about it in the other thread about oldschool modern games, but I repeat it: let's keep an eye on Shrine of Orm, a dungeon crawler in the style of 1990s first person Japanese dark fantasy RPGs. Graphics look like a good throwback and in general it seems promising. Plus, I like how the devs aren't shying away from actual horror: I'm kinda curious now- what the hell is going on there? Who would want to slaughter those nosy adventurers

Remember Mastema: Out of Hell? The Kickstarter failed but it wasn't a waste in the end, as it helped the author get in touch with a publisher. He's now putting the finishing touches and the game should be released within next Spring, although whether it will land on Steam too, will depend on how the recently launched Greenlight campaign (linked in the video's description) fares - a very positive video by Jim Sterling has furnished it a nice boost, so let's give it some love.

Has anyone played Hylics? I love the art style! Music is pretty cool too. It's only $3.00USD. This seems like my kind of game.

Another '10 years in the making' example, which many of you have probably heard of. It's not Owlboy visually, still has lots of it's own personality;I would easily play that !

Oh thanks, I did hear about it a while ago, but forgot, so here it is... while I'm a bit on the fence for Owlboy, I would gladly buy HFA even now! And it's not just for the cute witch, I swear.

I feel it's just a different style; on an aesthetic level, this appeals to me just as much as Owlboy, even if it's technically simpler.
Here's a trailer for a new game made by the guy behind Castle In The Darkness and Exploding Rabbit:
Don't be scared of by the beginning, the kaizo-looking part is apparently only a cutscene (why the trailer opened with it I don't know; if I didn't hold the developers in such high regard before, that'd probably have scared me away)

The concept is fun, but I find the way it is presented incredibly lame and lazy: just reproductions of scenes from a "safe" list of NES classics. After the first couple minutes, it becomes really annoying; I'm all for retro-styled games, but this is just pandering to the "only NES ever existed before" crowd. I hope this is just a concept video, because it has managed to make me completely uninterested in the project.

kinda reminds me of an extended version of ROM CHECK FAIL. dopagames.itch.io/superpilotDiscovered this game last night. So far the demo feels closer to F-Zero X than any other futuristic racer i tried, and the game comes even with a track editor. My only gripes are that the soundtrack is again pure techno stuff and that the performance sometimes suffers a bit.

Have y'all seen Cross Code? youtu.be/V-8y8HgR-FsI've been loving this lately. It's a blend of the guardian lengend and secret of mana, with fallout-style side missions and collection tasks. The Soundtrack is ace as well. Reminds me of 16-bit Squaresoft. Don't know if it's been mentioned yet, but I adore Ghost of a Tale: youtu.be/eJcX3FPPd_kThe graphics are BEAUTIFUL. It's tough to believe it's an indie game. It recently got an update with a big performance increase. It's a stealth-puzzle game with a pretty rich story and sekeikan (for lack of a better word). The stealth aspects are not particularly hardcore, but do make it interesting to run around the beautiful environments. These games are fairly cheap on steam, and I highly recommend them.

Speaking of horror games, there's this Polish guy who is making all by himself a horror adventure game based on famed manga artist Junji Ito's work (himself heavily drawing from Lovecraft) whose visuals (made in MS Paint apparently!) are reminiscent of very old Macintosh games. From what I can understand is Lovecraft but set in 80s/90s Japan instead of Maine. The game can be found here: panstas.itch.io/world-of-horrorand here is the development tumblr. Looks intriguing enough!

Iji ( HG101 article) has been updated after a whole seven years. Beside a porting to the latest version of Game Maker for better compatibility on newer systems, there are improvements like grahical tweaks, two new endings and non-lethal weapons. If you never played the game before, now it's your chance.
