Yes, the SegaPCM chip supports hard stereo panning while the YM2203 chip is in mono (which I've told you). Dunno why it wasn't used for Hang-On, maybe the cabinet thing as I mentioned earlier.

Possible. It was Sega's first non-laserdisc arcade game with stereo sound so possibly teething problems and the size of the cabinet made Hiro show some restraint.

For a good comparison point between the two chips, here's Enduro Racer, which is the only Sega game to have been released with both!
To these ears (aside from being in a completely different key), the 2151 sounds much fuller and warmer than the 2203. What do you think?

Cool find, I didn't know about the YM2203 version. Yeah, I'm not too surprised that the YM2151 one sounds better.
I think showing the best from each chip as I did before makes for the most fair comparison but this clearly shows the lower number of FM channels in the YM2203 chip, notice the use of PSG for the backing chords at 0:40. Both use 4-operator FM though so each channel's instrument can sound very similar (similarly I could directly port X68K instruments from SSF2 to my MD/YM2612 cover done in Deflemask), it's just that adding delayed and/or detuned channels playing the same thing makes a big difference, simulating echo and chorus respectively.

I know this was sort of an off topic discussion but I was just reminded about this video, showing a conversion of YM2608 music to the YM2612 (MD/GEN) sound chip. Most of the tracks sound better than ~95% of "real" MD music. There's a link to a rom file with the tracks on it in the description.

Do these cheat codes for Nemesis 3 work for anyone else in blueMSX? gamefaqs.gamespot.com/msx/917744-nemesis-3/cheatsNothing seems to happen for me, which is a shame as this would be an excellent game if the difficulty was toned down a bit. Especially with the Enhanced hack which adds smooth scrolling and more. Edit: So the codes are actually reversed, "hard" makes the game easier. But it also only affects boss HP from what I can tell, so it's not that useful. The shield extension doesn't seem to work at all. www.mobygames.com/game/nemesis-3-the-eve-of-destruction/hints/hintId,8514/
