Stoopid question time: If I've played and enjoyed the hell outta Ys Book I and II (TG16-CD) and Ys 3 (Genesis), should I get the Ark of Napishtim ASAP? Even though I haven't played Ys 4 on the PC-Engine CD...

It's definitely worth grabbing a copy, it's an extremely fun game. Also unlike Ys V jumping works great and is required throughout the game.
Also it's a fairly uncommon game. It's notable that it was released in the US with an MSRP of $39.99. The USED price for one currently at Gamestop/et. al is $39.99.

Not to go off topic here but, did anyone watch the Ys Book I & II animes? I watched them and I thought they were pretty cool, but Book II pissed me off because there was a lot of crap that didn't happen in the game and made the story fall into one of those anime cliches where there is a girl who does nothing, but because she is there the hero is able to triumph.

Not to go off topic here but, did anyone watch the Ys Book I & II animes? Not only did I watch, but also bought them as a neat compination called "Ys Legacy". It's a mirage that they got released in English officially.

Picked up the Ys Legacy set not that long ago. Enjoyed it quite a bit, though yeah, Lilia was a bit useless (though watching every single "boss" enemy fling Adol around in Ys I was amusing too). Still, it was reasonably priced and something I'm glad I was able to pick up. As for the Mines, try www.vgmaps.com/ If I'm not mistaken, they should have a map there.

I uh... "got a hold of" *wink wink* Ys IV for PCE and an English translation patch. All the text has been translated, but the voices are still in Japanese, so I'm missing a lot of story. I'll have to play Ys IV on Snes before I can play this one.

I'm pretty sure Deuce translated the vocal cutscenes in a seperate text file. They might be at GameFAQs? I'm not sure.

The prices for the US games irritated me and I like having everything on one system, so I ordered the Japanese cd Ys Book I and II, Ys III, and Ys IV from Japangamestock a few days ago. I played through almost all of them in some form or other when I was younger, but it will be cool to actually own them finally.

I found that text file with the English script of the voiced scenes. It was in the same zip that the patch came in. Interestingly enough it says it's for Ys IV Mask of the Sun, when it's clearly for Dawn of Ys.
Anyway I already started on Mask of the Sun, so I may as well finish it before I get into Dawn of Ys.

Personally I'm going to wait for this to happen before playing the game. For now the game disc will work as the soundtrack album, which is great alone. ;D
