Hey, at least you got portable Netflix, right? I pretty much saw this coming. Well, not quite; I had very little faith (but a lot of hope) that this game would be good, but given that Capcom's strategy was to appeal to the "fans" to decide on major design aspects of the game suggested to me that they were, in fact, floundering with a lot of pre-alpha design choices and no real creative lead to give them the balls to make a decision on anything. Like always, it's better that they went this route instead of releasing a half-assed, messy tack-on sequel to a branch of an extremely chaotic franchise that is still relatively 'pure' - in the sense that it's original and unique enough to stand on its own - but Capcom thankfully left it on a good note and declined to further fuck with it and ruin it. I'm pretty much entirely with you on this one. It felt like watching a reality TV show develop, something like "Fuck, we don't have any ideas, let's let the fans come up with something". Bayonetta thread notwithstanding it's funny how the acquisition of Clover/Platinum by Sega seems to have been a harbinger of the shift of quality noted by the two companies. Which is not to make too close a comparison, at this point. I'm surprised given how highly anticipated the title is they just didn't do something and release it. Even if it was crap, lots of fans would still buy it. They claim that this isn't motivated by the loss of Inafune, but given the lack of any sort of creative leadership

It would have been better for them to just keep ignoring the series in that case, instead of jerking the fanbase around like this. Fuck Capcom. I'm not saying they were competent to begin with, either.

I've translated the transcript from that blog into plain English: =========================================
A Message from Capcom Monday, July 18, 2011, 8:01 PM [General] Posted By: GregaMan
We'd like to thank you for your ongoing loyal support of Mega Man Legends 3. piss in your fucking face, as if this being Monday wasn't hard enough. Today, however, we must regrettably announce the discontinuation of this project. shit on your hopes and dreams of 10 years, then rub your face in it.
From the outset the MML3 Project was intended to give gamers across the world insight and input into the development process. doomed to failure, but hell if we wouldn't fuck with your head while we could. Part of this process includes an assessment of whether the title will go into full production, and is based on a number of criteria with input from different sectors of the company.lying to you ignorant fanboy fucks, making you feel like progress was being made, then bring everything crashing down on your face like a chandelier.
Unfortunately it was not felt that the Mega Man Legends 3 Project met the required criteria, it's cheaper to keep re-releasing the same fighting game over and over, and we're trying to spite that motherfucker Inafune, so it is with regret that we must announce that the Mega Man Legends 3 Project has been cancelled, meaning that Capcom will not be releasing the Prototype or the full game. the 250 dollar hunk of shit you bought from Nintendo is officially going to be sold by you to Gamestop for 1/20th the price tomorrow. Additionally, updates of the Mega Man Legends Developer Room will cease as of today, though the North American Developer Room and its forums will remain open indefinitely. the laughter from our offices will not be ceasing for quite some time, as we will be mocking you stupid shits for actually believing us.
We can only express our deepest apologies to belly laughts at all of you who have lent usNintendo your unending support$250, including participation in the Mega Man Legends 3 Developer Room. On behalf of the entire Legends team, please accept our sincere apology for failing to meet the expectations of the fans. believe us when we say that you look like in those Looney Tunes cartoons where Daffy Duck's head turns into a lollipop with the word "Sucker" written on it.
We thank you all so much for your extended support of this title and this community, being the stupid fucking sheep that you are and we hope that you will continue to support the Mega Man franchise as well as other Capcom games. buy our annual, marginal updates to our Street Fighter games and whatever franchise we decided to turn to shit next by farming out to a talentless western developer.
If you have any questions, please see the FAQ below.shut up and go fuck yourself. Then give us your money.
====================
Q: Are there plans to restart the Mega Man Legends 3 Project in the future?
A: Currently there are none. We will pretend to if you'll believe us.
Q: I want to maintain contact with the people I met through the Devroom.
A: The Dev Room will remain open in a limited capacity, so you can PM those people now and in the future.trade your fanfiction or whatever with your other friendgot friends while we secretly read your messages and laugh at your grief.
Q: Is there a chance the ideas recruited in the Devroom will be used in future games?
A: No, I am afraid not. We'll say it won't be so we don't have to pay you.
Q: Will it be okay to upload the ideas we contributed to the Devroom elsewhere?
A: Yes, you may reuse your ideas elsewhere, including those ideas that were selected as winners in Devroom events. provided you have a good lawyer. Should have read the fine print first, bitches.
Q: Will the people whose ideas were supposed to go in the game receive something else instead?
A:Yes, those whose ideas were to be implemented in the game will receive a commemorative gift, which will be shipped at a later date. copy of one of the 80,000 unsold copies of Dark Void.
Q.Can you please give me more information on why the MML3 project was cancelled so close to the launch of the Prototype?
A. The project was cancelled for the reasons outlined in the statement. We hate Inafune. We hate you. We like making stuff on the cheap while still pissing in your face. Did we really have to repeat ourselves?
Q.Will the Prototype Version still be distributed via the Nintendo eShop?
A.No it will not.Does the Pope support gay marriage?
Q.Is the cancellation of MML3 related to the departure of Inafune-san?
A. The cancellation of the MML3 project is in noevery way related to Inafune-san leaving the company. P.S., you're a fucking American, stop saying "-san" you weeaboos.
Q. This is the second Mega Man game cancelled this year, what does this mean for the future of the Mega Man Franchise?
A. Mega Man is still an important franchise within Capcom’s portfolio and we will continue to pursue opportunities to create new titles in the series. somewhat less likely to get a new game than Awesome Possum.
Q. The Dev Room was a place where fans were supposed to be deeply involved in the creation of this product, why were they not involved in the decision to cancel this product?
A. We thank all those who were involved in the Developer Room, but the decision to continue or cancel the MML3 ultimately had to be made by Capcom. if we didn't release the second Edgeworth game in the US, what made you think we'd keep our word on this game?
Q. What will happen to the ideas and input participants have given to the Dev Room?
A. Content will remain viewable on the Devroom, but will not be utilized for any future projects.Be shamelessly forced into other games and then we'll laugh at you.
Q. Will there be any future projects that involve fan participation in this manner? Or was this a one time experiment?
A. We will certainly continue to welcome suggestions and comments from Capcom’s community on current and future titles although right now there are no projects with plans to replicate the same level of interaction. if you dumbasses believe us.

Wow, Capcom has truly broken my heart here. I had a bad feeling about Legends 3, but I hoped that Capcom would not let fans down for once. Now I feel naive and betrayed.

I am pretty surprised they cancelled it. I didn't really have any stake in it, never having played the first two, but it really was kind of a dick move jerking everyone around like that. Best guess is the project lost direction when Inafune bailed. Either it just wasn't shaping up, and management axed it, or the developers themselves just didn't want to do it without him.

I'm no Megaman fan, but I do shake my head at this. I wasn't looking forward to that one MM game they canned, nor did I particularly care for MML3, but I think if it were released, it would have been an awesome thing to do, and probably would have made up for not getting AAI2.
But it looks like that may not happen. What a pity.

Beat me to it. MML was my favorite series in one of my most beloved franchises, so, yeah, fuck you Capcom. I was trying to defend Capcom over these last few years, thinking they hadn't gone downhill nearly as bad as Sega, Konami or S-E, but this officially marks the end of that.

I can't believe they'd let it get far enough to have a scheduled date for a demo and then just drop the fucking project. I mean I'm completely furious at Capcom for this.

That's why I never spent any money on a game console unless the game I want for it are already available in stores.
