I don't see that at all. Perhaps the participation was not what they'd expected. That, coupled with the underperformance of the 3DS and the departure of the creative mind behind the project, sound like great reasons to cancel from where I stand. I am rather curious about the 3DS sales- people keep saying it has underperformed and while I have no doubt it isn't the same adoption rate as the Wii or DS Lite (I think the DS had a slowish start right? :\) I daresay it has still sold quite a few million more than it should have given there's very little games out for it or due anytime soon. What do they constitute as dissapointing these days? Is a million seller "average" now in the eyes of the gaming industry? A modest success? :\ Sorry to go off topic but I do need to know

Capcom did officially state that Legends 3 wasn't greenlit yet. They did mention a possibility that the game wouldn't get made at all, but the development team kept working on a demo because they didn't know what would happen. The cancellation didn't come out of nowhere.

Saying you're going to do something (like promising a release date for a demo!) and then not doing it is objectively lying. No, it isn't. In order to lie, one has to have the intent to deceive. They had some idea of what the hell was going on.

This could also be the first generation where Nintendo isn't the global dominant force in handheld gaming.

Like Bejewled before it. I guess Nintendo didn't really get that it'd take more than a graphical update and a 3d slider to win over a casual market- heck 3D cinema is still on shakey ground at the moment. It's hard to convince non gamers they'd want to spend £250 on a console and £40 a game when they can play something for just over £1 that seems fun AND is on their phone of choice heh. Like the music and movie industry I think the games industry needs to understand that things are different now- you can't stick with the old model of working anymore. Spending £50+ Million on a half baked turkey then solely pointing the finger at piracy when it fails isn't the way to go.

This uproar does make me realize that it's kind of funny how many games get cancelled all the time without even making a blip on the industry radar.
Disaster Report 4 was ALMOST COMPLETE, and it got completely scrapped. This game hadn't even been greenlit yet.
Yes, I know Megaman Legends has a ridiculously devout fanbase, but that doesn't mean all these other niche projects don't have just as much if not more work put into them that went completely to waste.

Angry Birds is the global dominant force in handheld gaming. And here I went and bet it all on Flight Control. *sigh*

I think Capcom being complete prick teases about it with getting the fans involved with the art and some design decisions and promising a demo was what made it worse. They made it seem like the game was definitely coming out since you don't make the claims or do the promotions they were doing on a project that wasn't even greenlit. They really handled it badly.

I was following Disaster Report 4 and actively sending emails to the devs about localization, so when this got cancelled I was upset, yet understood that something needed to be done. I followed other posters advice and started sending emails that perhaps the game might better be released somewhere unaffected and have some of the sales donated for aid. We weren't able to drum up much support for the idea if only because the game wasn't being followed that much anyway.

While I'm pissed about the cancellation and Capcom's handling of it, I really hope people don't go hassling unrelated Capcom reps at Comic Con, which will just make the rest of us look bad. (And even more so, I hope the "kicking out people who mention Mega Man" rumors are also false.)

I think the cancellation of that game is bullshit as well. Legends 3's cancellation does bother me more, I have to admit, but I don't think that game cancellations in general aren't something to be disappointed by. While I'm pissed about the cancellation and Capcom's handling of it, I really hope people don't go hassling unrelated Capcom reps at Comic Con, which will just make the rest of us look bad. True; I may hate Capcom in general for this, but hassling the people running the booths at Capcom who have no say in this matter won't do anyone any good.

That's been in development for ages and I'm sure will be shut down in the near future.

That's been in development for ages and I'm sure will be shut down in the near future. Yeah... It's one of those "no release date" deals, but it's been making progress. This isn't to say Capcom won't be even bigger douchebags than they are now and shut it down.
