I'm pretty sure the Legends team cares too much about the game to let fans turn the game into trash ;p They'll probably just take the best ideas and then put their own spin on them. I don't see anything wrong with getting some inspiration from fans, especially for a series that is only seeing its return because of a cult fanbase keeping the spirit alive for so many years. Yeah, that's true. I know Inafune must be excited about finally getting to make Legends 3. I hope they do a good job with this game

Ah, man, that's nuts! Both my favorite choice and my least favorite choice worked on Zack & Wiki. I really liked Zack & Wiki's designs a lot.

I really don't like Kaji's concept. Yeah, Met hat, I get it. It's neat, but the character as a whole looks like she came straight out of the Battle Network games. She just doesn't fit in Legends at all. This seems like an odd criticism to me. One of thing things that drew me to Battle Network was how similar its character design aesthetics were to Legends'. I mean, Yai is pretty much the creepy little girl from the quiz minigame in MML2. To be honest, it's more than just her strong resemblance to Mayl that bothers me about the character... it's kind of hard for me to explain exactly what it is that I dislike so much, but I'll try: First, she just doesn't have a very distinctive silhouette. I think it's really important that a main character has a silhouette that can stand out in a crowd. Take Megaman, Tron, Tiesel, Roll, pretty much any major character from the Legends games and make silhouettes out of them. Then stick them in a sea of NPC silhouettes. You'll be able to pick them out instantly. Even people who have never played the game before will notice their silhouettes and recognize them as important characters. Met girl's silhouette, on the other hand, looks an awful lot like she could just be a female construction worker NPC. While it's certainly possible to go too far with costume and hair design, it can't be too dull either. Every other major character in Legends has a notable touch of pizazz that makes them stand out in a crowd, even as silhouettes, and I don't think the Mettaur hat is sufficient for that purpose. Second (and this isn't as important as the first point, but it still bothers me), the color scheme just doesn't look quite right to me. Megaman Legends has a bold, bright, happy look about it, but Kaji's concept uses earthier tones that have a rather subdued look to them. I realize that it's not entirely fair to compare the colors of a concept sketch to the colors of in-game models, but nevertheless, when I look at the in-game models in the Legends games, then at the concepts of Ishikawa or Suetsugu, then at Kaji's... well, their art keeps to a coloring scheme much more consistent with that seen in the games than Kaji's does. Ultimately, Kaji's concept just doesn't look like main character material. She could work as a shopkeep, or as a contruction worker, or some other minor NPC, but she just doesn't have the visual oomph to be a major character. She's just too bland and forgettable.

Last day courtesy bump. This poll ends on Monday, so if you haven't voted yet, vote or die. No, seriously. You've seen it, P. Diddy and his entourage come to your house with guns and shit. I'm only warning you. Anyway, here's the international (as of Friday) standings that factors in Japanese votes and it worries me a bit: blog.daletto.net/dash3/archives/1337838.html 3rd is Yoshikawa's design (thank god it isn't going to win at this point) 2nd is Suetsugu's 1st is Komaki's If you wanna change this (wink wink), get the votes in. And if you're feeling extra dedicated you can also vote in the Japanese poll, but you have to type in the language of course-- hell, use google translate if you really can't do that.

That's what I'm saying. Hopefully the stats have changed already by now. Fingers crossed.

At least she's losing to Komaki's design, which is the only other design that is somewhat decent. Yoshikawa's design is just plain ugly and I don't know how it got third place. I'm hoping it's a distant third at least.
I love how the Japanese version of the poll actually shows larger scans of the actual designs, as well as showcasing the artists' previous works.

If you click on the pics in the U.S. polls, you get larger versions and quotes from the artists. 2nd is Suetsugu's 1st is Komaki's Why is this not reversed? Aughhhhh. Oh well, it's not a bad design, I just really preferred Suetsugu's Really, I thought these were all pretty good except the bottom middle and right.

If Suetsugu's loses, I hope they don't just dump the design. I really like it a lot

I wouldn't mind Yoshikawa's if she actually wore more under that cloak. But as it stands, she looks more like something hanging on Travis Touchdown's wall. I really liked the designs for X8, so this is really disappointing.
Komaki's okay, but it still looks a little too bland. The detached sleeves and stockings are kind of cool, but they feel too forced.
Suetsugu's is just great, though. I love the general Wild West look to her costume. Her design just feels the most balanced of the three in general. Komaki's looks like some moe girl who takes over the plot with their mysterious backstory, Komaki's looks like it's trying to hard to make you love it, but Suetsugu's just feels like a natural addition to the cast.

EDIT: And I don't mean that, given that I have it as my avatar, that I'm saying this to be flippant. Perish the thought.
