Can't wait to start it. Not sure about the localization though, I hear they got some dude who knows nothing about the series to spearhead it. What a waste.

What's that guy's name again? Tim Lipshitz? Total hack.

Okay, I don't know what the deal is. Fry's still doesn't have the game in stock. Gamestop's website says no stores within 100 miles of me are stocking it either. I also noticed my Fry's doesn't appear to be stocking ZHP either. I wonder if they're calling it quits on PSP games?
Amazon might be getting my business after all. I was all set to order it and Final Fantasy XIII as soon as I got home from work (it was on sale for $19), but the sale was over when I looked. Oh well, pretty sure I dodged a bullet there anyhow. Maybe I'll just order this and ZHP.

That's intentional, actually. For a variety of reasons, we decided to use the spelling "Europe," but pronounced "Europa." Even in Ys Seven (and on the map) the continent is referred to as Europe, but when talking about locations or people from Europe, they're regarded as "Europan," not "European."
It's the same sort of thing as the location being Romn, but those from it being Romuns. Goes a bit against what people are used to, but we had our reasons for doing it that way.

Romuns make sense, but the "Europe pronounced as 'Europa'" bit will take some getting used to. I actually never noticed it in Ys Seven... it probably wouldn't have caught my attention if not for the disconnect between hearing "Europa" while reading "Europe" in that one scene.
I really love Dogi's voice actor, by the way (who is it? I don't see any VA credits in the manual). Oh man, he nails the part, and delivers his lines so perfectly! Every scene he has a presence in is a riot.

There are no VA credits at all... and unfortunately, I'm sworn to secrecy on that, myself. I can't even actually reveal WHY I can't reveal anyone's name... but it's not too hard to figure out, as it's kind of a common practice in the gaming industry.
If you look around enough on message boards, though, you'll find people who've sounded out virtually every one of the Felghana actors/actresses, and posted their guesses. And while not ALL of them are correct... not all of them are incorrect, either. So you can probably just assume that what they've deduced is, in fact, accurate. (:

You just had people around the office do all the voices, and you guys are shy? If that's not the case, my suspicion would be the actors worked for below union rates, or in some other way that defies union rules. But Tom can't say that.

I haven't played it yet; I'm hoping it's good, I'm sort of scared because I have a very specific voice attached to Dogi (Robert Ridgely, voice of Thundarr the Barbarian, as well as the title characters of the Filmation Tarzan and Flash Gordon cartoons. I can't think of anyone else alive that could nail that level of hamminess.).

Yep, it's common practice.
The only games I recall actually crediting their casts in the last decade are Castle Shikigami 3(!?) and No More Heroes.
Demon's Souls credited theirs, too. Possibly because they were European.

It's a common practice with localized Japanese games because a lot of them aren't union jobs. So they're not credited at all, or through a pseudonym.
Though there are a number of them that do credit their casts. Off the top of my head (and there's a lot more than these I'm sure), both Street Fighter IV's (though Blanka's VA uses a pseudonym because he's also the ADR director), the Metal Gear Solid games, Crisis Core, and the .hack//GU trilogy.

I assume because they all have high enough budgets to use a union cast.
Still not sure how Shikigami 3 managed that. The game was as obscure as they get.

Fan reaction to Dogi's voice so far seems to be 90% positive, and I myself can't imagine a better voice for him (he kinda sounds like a goofier Patrick Warburton). Check out the samples on the website (http://www.worldofys.com/ysf), and see what you think. Personally, I think the whole main cast, in particular, did a great job -- though for me, Chester takes the cake. Chester turned out soooooo good... Also: There... uh... is one line, spoken by a guard, that was done by a certain someone from around the office. Not sure what those XSEED people were thinking, though, putting such a nasally, nerdy-voiced guard in their game. -Tom

Chester sounds exactly like Persona 3's villain.

Voice aside, I just think his ACTING is amazing. He was a real method actor, psyching himself up prior to delivering every line, asking for every last morsel of backstory we could give him, requesting retakes on lines HE felt weren't good enough... a consummate pro, all the way.
