I just picked up King of Fighters 2002/2003 for the XBOX, which has to be one of the awesomest packages for the system. Two of the greatest games in the series (IMO) in one box, given several new modes and unlockables, and 2003 has enhanced music! Makes me wonder why 2002 does not, but ah well.
It does make me wonder, however... I don't have any other home ports of... well, of any other SNK fighter, let alone KoF. Does anyone recommend any other console ports of any SNK fighters?

Garou: Mark of the Wolves for the Dreamcast is ridiculously good. And I mean ridiculously good. Curse you Sony for not letting the port of the PS2 version come to America! Pretty difficult to find however.

Never liked kof of fighters. It's too slow, my all time favorite game is Guilty Gear

My favorite KOF games would be '98 and 2000 (98 can be found on Dreamcast as "Dream Match 1999", and 2000 is bundled with 2001 I believe). If you're looking for more games in the style of KOF, then Capcom VS SNK 2 is a good game for the money (music in it is utter crap though). I also highly recommend Mark of the Wolves, and for the hell of it, either of the Last Blade games for Dreamcast.

Most of the good current SNK games are only in Japan for the PS2. Talking to SNK, they don't currently have any plans to port them anywhere else either.
It suck too, because Neo Geo Battle Colisseum is great, and even though Samurai Shodown Tenka loses a lot of the cool atmosphere from the earlier titles, it's still an excellent game, and a fairly comprehensive representation of the series. Also, the local arcade finally got King of Fighters XI in, and it's all kinds of awesome. Japanese PS2 release hits next month.

I'd personally go for KOF '98, its my favourite for the character roster and general 'feel' of the game

KOF98 is definitely the best... for now. Rumors says KOF XI is better.

The best KoF games are '98 and '02...cuz they're the dream matches. '02 kinda sucks because they raped Yashiro and Orochi Yashiro though, wtf oro. I wish atomiswave was emulated....I'd love to play XI, Neowave, NGBC, and espcially SS Tenka.

Yes, that's the general consensus I hear on 2001... it could be the worst KoF game ever. It's got quite a few things going against it, but to be fair, it technically wasn't made by SNK. Eolith had a hard time filling in the original company's shoes, and their end result was less than stellar. The Striker system (which I've never been the fondest of) gets even more confusing and worthless as Strikers now detract from your bar that could be put to better use with Desperation Moves, the graphics are the worst I know of in a KoF game and look muddled and uninspiring (hell, I even prefer the bright vintage styles of 94 and 95 to this look), the music is the worst in the series with absolutely unmemorable tunes (except for the final boss musics... the only way I know them is because I've heard them so many damn times against my will), and Original Zero and Igniz are two of the worst bosses ever. I mean, we've had our share of cheap-ass SNK final bosses in the past, but these shitgobblers just take the biscuit! I went to insanity attempting to best Igniz without any additional assistance at the Continue screen... the scars remain in my brain to this day.
