Even in Japanese, the game is very easy to play through. I never once got stuck. Maybe, but since it has an interesting story (and some rpg elements) it would be such a shame if you don't understanding anything at all. As about the collector's edition it's very beautiful and I wish it will be released on the european version. Otherwise, I will buy the japanese collector's edition along with the normal european edition.

Ah, I didn't know this had actually received a PEGI rating. Score! I heard that this game was released in Europe as well. Was it released in english or only in french/spanish/or other language? Does it have the original japanese voice acting? Yeah, there's a European release, it actually came out about a year before the American one, but as far as I've seen only in France, and it's pretty hard to come by. It has the Japanese voice acting with French subtitles, although oddly there's less speech than the US version. I haven't played the original Japanese version, so whether they cut a load of speech out or the US version added it in I don't know.

As far as I remember, the US and Japanese versions of Tail Concerto have the same scenes voiced. The only differences of significance are that they changed the intro song (replacing the j-pop) and removed a couple of the photos (ones that had alcohol). You collect the same amount of picture pieces, it's just that the Japanese version has six bonus photos upon completing the game (assuming you collected everything) while the US version has four, replacing the removed photos with the other two Japanese bonus pictures.
The story in Solatorobo isn't particularly complex. I mean, it's designed so that kids can enjoy the game too. The first half/story is extremely easy to follow, even more so if you've played Tail Concerto because it cleverly mirrors it in ways. Just about any scene of significance to the plot is played out in a very visual way. The second half/story is a little deeper, so the finer details are a bit harder to pick up. If the game ever gets an English release in any country, I know I'll be picking it up because I love the game enough to want that extra bit of clarity on the plot, but if the game stays in Japanese, nobody should hesitate to import. It's far better to experience the game in any language than to not experience it at all, as it's loads of fun no matter what.

Anyone know what title it goes by in France if it did get released. Solatorobo brings up nothing on amazon.fr

It hasn't been released anywhere outside of Japan so far. There hasn't even been a concrete announcement of any localization, although it is a bit hopeful for some countries.
It was shown in France as "Project CODA". I'm skeptical of the claims that the game was shown in French, though. Unless they actually translated some of the text, then it's no different from the Japanese release. The section of the world in which the game takes place is French-speaking, story-wise. The signs are in French, many of the characters have French names (a lot of food names, like Chocolat, Souffle, Crepe, Fromage, Frappe, etc.), and what's probably confusing people is that, while the game doesn't have full voice acting, it does have little vocal snippets and when they're words, they're in French. Japanese people speaking French, sometimes badly, but French nonetheless. Just little stuff like oui, salut, sacre bleu, bonjour, etc. It sounds really corny explaining it like this, haha, but it's very cute and contributes very well to the game's atmosphere.
So it's very possible that it was shown in France as some kind of publicity stunt or something. I think it was shown there even before the Japanese release.

Well if Paracelsus is correct that Tail Concerto's European release was France-only, that might somewhat explain it. Maybe they just think the French really like furries anthropomorphic animals. Seriously, who can say with Namco.

No kidding. I'm fairly certain that "must be an enormous asshole" was listed as a job requirement for whoever is in charge of what does or does not get localized.

The PEGI rating lists the original "Solarobo" title, so if it is released in Europe, it'll no doubt go by that name.
And if it is French-only...well, the good news is, that makes my job a hell of a lot easier. See, I've actually been tinkering with a fan translation. Pretty much everything's in a compressed archive format, but I kinda eat compression for breakfast. I've brewed up some tools for ripping those compressed files, and I've actually reached a point where I can edit the game's text.
However, there's a snag. See, the game's got foreign-language resources already in it - English credits, multilingual location names, that kind of stuff. I can't figure out how to make them display, but if I could get my hands on a localized version and compare the two...yeah, this could happen.
In short: screw Bamco! If this sucker hits Europe without an English translation, take heart that my fan translation efforts will be officially back on track.

You're the best! Another fact is when I searched on a certain site for the pal iso it was only in french. At least the cover is much better from the crappy, american one from Atlus USA.

I don't suppose I could convince anyone in this thread to write me an article on these two games, could I?

With no news so far and the 3DS starting to rev up, I'd say that importing and/or hoping for a fan translation is the way to go.

I'm not a furry, but I think it's kind of ridiculous how hated they are online. I don't see why people get so worked up over it.
Anyways, I'd like to play this game, but I'd prefer to play Tail Concerto first. Maybe after I play that, if I like it, then I'll check this game out.
