So, I've been looking at clips of that new Loony Toons show they're going to put up on Cartoon Network.
It kind of sucks.
A lot.
And there's one very big reason for that. See, from what I can tell by the clips I've seen, all the jokes are expressed through people sitting around and talking. I mean, sure, it's not like nobody talked at all in the old shorts. But you had things happening, characters getting blown up, attacked, and just generally doing things. Here, there's no action, no slapstick, just the characters sitting around and talking. The most dynamic thing that happens is Daffy hitting his head on a pole and denting it slightly.
I dunno, maybe they're just hiding the slapstick for when the actual show comes out. But I'd be really pissed if they kept all the cartoon violence on the Road Runner episodes. Right now, though, this is basically like watching a live-action sitcom on Fox where the actors are dressed as Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck.
I watched tons and tons of Loony Toons along with a healthy amount of Animaniacs, so this was pretty painful to sit through. I mean, why is it so difficult to make a good Loony Toons show at all? I mean, anybody remember Duck Dodgers? That was fantastic, and that was only back in 2004!
...And yet I bet there's going to be a whole legion of children with their brain cells sucked out by stuff like Adventure Time and Regular Show that's going to be thinking this is the next Animaniacs.
...On further thought I'm probably the only one around here who gives a shit but GET OFF MY LAWN

But Adventure Time is good. Honestly, I'm thinking this move was done to save money because it's easier to animate two people sitting and talking than it is to show them doing something that requires movement and action. Granted, the show could be action packed and they're saving the best for last, but I doubt it. Why they're even bothering with this is beyond me, though. It seems like a waste of time for everyone involved. At least this looks better than Loonatics Unleashed.

While I watched a lot, loooooot of Looney Tunes as a kid and I loved Duck Dodgers, I actually thought the clip you posted was kind of funny. Bugs' voice was weird, though.
Then again, I have a strange affixation with Daffy Duck.
Anyways, I imagine that they're saving all the crazy anvil and slapstick stuff for the actual show. With talky-clips online, they can show off the voice actors, animation, writing, whereas if it's all slapstick it's not showing off as much of the show as they could be given the time constraints of short clips. I don't imagine the kids that would be watching this show anyways would be going around online looking for clips, so it could be that the online marketing is aimed more towards older fans? I dunno. I can't imagine Looney Tunes without someone's head getting hit by anvil or something.
(although I wonder what the context of them sitting around eating chinese food is. are they roommates or something now? huh?)

The new Thundercats looks like an abomination, as well.

This clip is pretty lame, I hope it's not going to be representative of the quality of the show on the whole.
They should just bring the Duck Dodgers cartoon back.

I'll be honest with you, the humor in Adventure Time is a bonus but the real reason I'm a fan is b/c of the subliminal premise that Ooo is really Earth after the apocalypse. I'm honestly intrigued by that.
Regular Show I do watch for the humor and all the nostalgia tracks they toss every once in a while.

While the Loony Tunes clip is depressing. Lay off Adventure Time man - it actually has a lot of the elements you find lacking here - it's loaded with cartoon slapstick, movement and dialogue isn't always as prominent. Sure it's a little dumb but it's got a good natured spirit.

Hands off Adventure Time.Anyway, the clip isn't exactly awe-inspiring but I don't think it's gonna be a train wreck like Loonatics Unleashed. The new Thundercats looks like an abomination, as well. So it will be 100% faithful to the 80's series,I guess.

Maybe they're just making things all PC for the young, impressionable minds (i.e. their overprotective, close-minded pushy parents). Explosions and slapstick are 'too extreme, violent and anything that explodes is related to terrorism!' I know I'm picking out extreme examples of what people might think, but this is what I get out of most new cartoons. They're all watered-down sitcoms with no wild, child-like imagination and fun. Nothing 'cool', just bad CGI usually. I think the grand days of NA cartoons has come to pass.

Those old cartoons also had enough bits of characters sitting around talking.
Also, yes, it does appear better than Loonatics.

I dunno about this Shows like Ben 10 and Generator Rex get away with quite alot of violence and non bloody on screen deaths much more than most 80's and 90,s shows did. The censorship depends on the Network. Shows like Naruto in the UK that aired on Jetix was a edited version of the American edited version. I mean they edited out of the opening a Sword flying into a dummy so it just looped the sword flying twice instead. So yeah Naruto did not fare well in the UK though the 8pm time slot did not help. I do think Cartoon Network have the best cartoon series though. I used to like Nick more but they never seem to bother with any good new animated shows unless there called Sponge Bob now

Oh, I watch the new MLP alright. I had to give the first episode a shot given Lauren Faust's involvement.
I've got quite a few cartoons I follow these days. Sym-Bionic Titan, Generator Rex, the new G.I. Joe, the new MLP, Adventure Time, Regular Show...
I also gotta say that Tron Uprising looks surprisingly cool, and I didn't even like Legacy all that much.
