I heard that waves will hit Hawaii and California in a few hours. I live in California, so I hope it won't be too bad

Northeastern Japan is a mess. There's some pretty crazy footage on TV right now - a huge wall of floating houses, flaming wreckage, and seawater just completely swallowing some of the country's best rice fields... a massive fire at a steel factory in Chiba City... an entire parking lot's worth of cars washed out to sea...
There have been periodic aftershocks all afternoon - there was one just now, in fact.
Earthquakes suck. Go hug your loved ones.

My head hurts and my heart aches so much seeing any kind of disaster like this happen to anyone at any time. I've been crying looking at some of the stills; I can barely bring myself to look at any of the live footage. I'm exhausted but can't stop looking at all the horrifying new updates.
What the fucking gods is going on. This isn't even a question at this point. What did we do to Mother Nature this time.
Time to open my wallet.
As far as any tsunamis hitting the west coast, they'll be minimal by most at the time they're projected to hit. Just don't sleep on a beach or try to surf a wave (I hear warnings in Hawaii have actually had to say that).

As anyone will tell you, there's hell to pay when Mother Nature gets angry. It would be nice if things like this wouldn't happen, but the sad truth is, there's just no stopping it. It blows. I hate knowing things like this happen to good people, too. Nobody deserves that.
I really do send my condolences to people who get affected by such horrors, and to the unfortunates who don't survive it.
I'm sure Japan will recover from this, but man, it's going to take a lot of time and money, and the process is never easy. Here's hoping they have good fortune to make it through this quickly.

xerxes, hope everything's okay. I have an e-friend from another forum that just moved to Kyoto to take a different teaching job. I guess a gas station 1 km from his school blew up and blew the doors off the school.

Huh. I spent two and a half weeks living with host families in and around Sendai a few years back.
Shit.

8.9 quake....poor Japan. I really feel bad and hope they recover quickly. These nasty earthquakes just remind us how powerless we really are.
I hope this was an isolated incident, severe earthquakes are brutal on the people and the economy.

Oh man... and I thought the house fire that occurred just a few blocks away from me was a disaster. This is just awful.

This is really terrible and I hope to god the country doesn't suffer too much from it. (Perhaps a bad time to say this but I am curious if any demon hacking incidents will be reported in the next few weeks though...)

The footage is so scary it's almost unreal. I also have a friend teaching in Japan who I haven't heard from yet but I'm trying not too worried. (Perhaps a bad time to say this but I am curious if any demon hacking incidents will be reported in the next few weeks though...) I felt bad for having the Schwarzwelt pop in to my mind after seeing tsunami footage for the millionth time.
