I also kind of wonder if any game HQs took any serious damage, like Atlus, Capcom, or SNK, on the side of things. Unlikely, since most game developers are stationed in Tokyo or farther south. There might be some offices in Sendai, though. Meanwhile, we already have our first video game casualties: Yakuza of the End (Ryu ga Gotoku) has been delayed indefinitely. Disaster Report 4 (Zettai Zetsumei Toshi) has been cancelled. Not at all surprising, since both games strongly feature Japanese locales in apocalyptic ruin. Little things like a couple of video games seem meaningless in the face of what's happened, but it's a shame to think that all the creativity and hard work that went into these games might go to waste. I was really looking forward to Disaster Report 4 - it's an underdog series that was getting a big chance on the PS3. Of course, once you've seen FLOATING HOUSES ON FIRE on live TV, video games completely fail to be impressive. I also want to personally thank anyone who donates or helps out in any way. Some of my wife's relatives lived in a neighborhood that was completely obliterated (they lived right next to Rikuzentakata), and we're afraid they didn't make it. We haven't heard any word confirming or denying it, but like many other people in that area, it's unlikely they'll ever be found.

Tragic events. It's also frustrating because I haven't been able to contact friends (via email) who live in Fukushima, and I don't know if it's simply because of lack of internet access or not.
As for Irem's cancellation, I read an interesting twitter from GamesTM's dep editor, suggesting that rather than cancel it, Irem should release it and donate profits to relief aid. Which seemed like a beneficial alternative, especially considering it was close to completion anyway.

Pity about those two games, though. It kind of sucks to have games halted or canceled because of a disaster, but I can understand their reasoning behind it given the circumstances.

Damn it. That was one of my most wanted games of this year. I'd be even more glad if they released it and my money went to relief aid. I hope they wind up changing their mind eventually.

I wonder if at least the Yakuza title might find its way to release outside of Japan. If it's almost done I wouldn't be too surprised if SEGA's international divisions were willing to publish it to at least break even on it (seriously can Sega afford to loose even more money).

Thank you, we needed that. She looks so warm and bright amongst everything else. And that man's grin is amazing.

I've always been affected when disasters struck countries, like the Sri Lanka tsunami a while back, because I'm pretty empathetic about stuff. But this hurts more, because it is a country that I know a lot about, and have contacts in. And, I've got good friends who are half-Japanese and have relatives there, and to see them affected makes it really "real". So I'm going to donate as much as I can, by helping a lady friend of mine who's family in Japan has been affected with a charity drive at school, and by being there for her if she needs it.
And I hate that there are people disrespecting this event, but I guess that's idiots for you. I wish I could go over there and help, but obviously I can't so I'll just do what I can through charity.

Sorry, I just had to share that.

Amazing, the way people manage to survive these events are rival the incredible magnitude of the cataclysms.

4 caught fire, but it was offline and had no fuel rods before the quake hit. It's been extinguished, and there was a spike in radiation that's now going down. If it had burned the leftover fuel it would have been worse than anything else so far. They're checking it now and hopefully they can get back to 2 now and end this.
This sucks but it still won't travel anywhere to the US, so don't listen to anyone who says so.
EDIT: 4 had the same hydrogen explosion the others have had, so I wouldn't be surprised if it gets pickled too.
EDIT THE SEQUEL: Or not. I'm getting conflicted reports of 4. 1, 2, and 3 may be in cold shutdown status at least. Come on 4....
EDIT THREE: 1 2 and 3 are fine at Daini. Daiichi still has problems. Balls.
A FOURTH?: Hydrogen explosion may have caused 4's fire but it sounds like it should be easily cooled/monitored now. I hope. I'd pickle it at this point as a precaution myself.

By the sounds of it the risk to the reacotrs should be easying off? It's hard to say because we get nothing here but THE REACTORS ARE ABOUT TO BLOW UP reports here in AUS. On the upside they'll have virtually no argument when they demand funding to install the latest Reactors that are significantly safer.
