Apparently Cave made a deal with Microsoft to released Deathsmiles IIX in untranslated form on Games on Demand in the US. The game will retail for 29.99 and be available next week on the 17th. I hate digital copies, but if this paves the way for more import games on XBLA then I'll bite. Shouldn't that be Deathsmiles VIII?

I think it's like 2-X (X i.e. as a variable)

Untranslated? This sucks! I have already played the original japanese version and I would love to play an english version in order to see its story.

$30 for an untranslated game that is several years old on release? Sounds like extortion to me. I won't bite, especially after how high quality the European retail release of Deathsmiles turned out to be. I quite enjoyed having a soundtrack disc alongside my game.

This is sort of where I'm at - I have the Japanese release and probably would've bought it again if it were translated...not like I particularly care about the story, but it would make me feel like I wasn't just paying $30 to get a copy to play on my US 360. I might get it just to support them though, so they bring out more stuff and I don't have to pay goddamned $90 to import Akai Katana.

Yeah, this is pretty lame. At least Aksys translated Arcana Heart 3. Some people do like to know what's happening in the story sequences. Should've just let Aksys handle this one too.

It'll probably go on sale sooner or later too. But yeah, I'm fairly opposed to buying digital copies as well. I guess it's good we're getting more Cave stuff in whatever form though... so yay?

I don't mind the fact that it will be untranslated. It would be nice to have English text, but half the shooters I play are in Japanese, so its not a deal breaker.
What truly bugs me is the lack of a physical copy. I keep my games for years, and it bothers me that one day if my hard drive corrupts, I could lose my game forever if the XBLA servers are shutdown. I was a huge fan of what Aksys did for the first Deathsmiles, so it is really disappointing to see so little effort going into the sequel's American debut.
However, if this release gets us Akai Katana, Ketsui, and the Dodonpachi games, I will suck it up. BTW, the Akai Katana demo is on Japan XBLA right now, and it is awesome, especially if you liked Progear.

Shouldn't that be Deathsmiles VIII? Game companies should know better than to follow a roman numeral with a letter. This is why Capcom changed the title of Super Street Fighter II X to Super Street Fighter II Turbo overseas after all.

I think this was done because Cave knows the release of the first Deathsmiles in the West has created more desire for the sequel but they haven't found any publisher willing to take it on.
So I don't think gritching at Cave is justified. I've seen them do some bonehead things before (particularly with the porting of this release originally), but I don't believe this is one of 'em. If Aksys or someone else was going to pick this up, of course we wouldn't get it like this.
As to the price; they are asking what they are asking just as if it WAS a recent disc release that had go on up on Games On Demand. It was a full release in Japan. I'm not sure you could expect it to be like a ten-dollar game in On Demand. At least it is seriously less this way than if you'd imported the game originally.
I think personally, I'm going to ferret out a disc. It's kinda ludicrous I haven't done that already considering how many Cave games I have already.
And Akai Katana Shin IS pretty awesome.

It's too bad they're testing the waters with Deathsmiles IIX. I would have bought any other shooter from their entire catalog except this one. Hopefully enough people are interested to show their support so Cave will decide to distribute more of their games internationally.

Don't let the awful sub-Dreamcast quality graphics (and continued off-kilter goth loli theme) put you off! It's a really good game - I didn't write the article on the site, but I did buy the game to snag pics for it, and I'm in total agreement with it. www.hardcoregaming101.net/deathsmiles/deathsmiles2.htmThat being said...yeah, probably something a bit more standard like DDPDFK might be better. I think they only just recently realized that they have an international audience but isn't entirely sure how to deal with them yet.

Well this is impossible for me to buy If it never makes it to the European Market place and I hate buying stuff online with Credit Cards. Though this coming out of Europe which I can not see a problem with if it is just the Untranslated Japanese version. But if Cave want to get their products out Worldwide why is this Untranslated both their XBLA games was translated and Published by them so why would they not do the same with one of their Retail games?
