Wow, you guys weren't kidding. The graphics really are shitty on this thing. Beyond the Beyond almost had better visuals than this. It reminds me of when I saw it. It was a few days ago; my brother and I stayed at a cousin's house, and he had a 360. One of the games featured on the Xbox Marketplace was Deathsmiles IIX. When I saw the price and the screenshots, I said the following to my brother and my cousin: "30 bucks for this?"

A relatively poor stab at polygonal graphics by Cave.
So now you know why the Daifukkatsu games and Akai Katana are returns to super-spriteville AND upgraded to HD.
Cave may go the polygonal route at some point but I think they realise they don't have a good grasp yet.

It's 2011. When the fudge will they figure it out? Granted, I prefer sprites over polygons for shmups, but seriously. This isn't complex work.

Bought this the other day. It looks wonky, but it's a blast to play. Hopefully this will bode well for DDPDFK, Ketsui, and Akai Katana. :3 I'm hoping we get Daioujou, although not holding my breath. That was a 5pb port, so probably less likely than the ones Cave handled themselves. Daifukkatsu seems to be fairly divisive on the shmup boards I've visited. Akai Katana seems to not be so popular either.

I'll preface this by saying I am not a huge shmup player. This is just stuff I've read while lurking on forums.
The original arcade release of Akai Katana was apparently thrown together in 3 months. It's a short game, apparently fairly easy, and people have complained that there's not a lot of potential for building up massive score. I'm not too clear on the details, but apparently there was a second "consumer" run of PCBs, that fixed a lot of the problems with the arcade release. The 360 version is supposed to also be heavily improved. So, it might actually turn out awesome. People do seem impressed with the demo. (I haven't played it.)
Daifukkatsu, the scoring system just seems to be really divisive. Some people love it. Some people hate it. And of course Black Label is a separate release, and may also be much improved. Not too sure.

Drama! Intrigue! Yeah, I guess I can understand why some people on here were saying that Cave fans are neanderthals.

Don't know anything about Akai Katana beyond what Orbus posted, but for Daifukkatsu...a big part of the game involves building up your hyper meter, which will temporarily charge up your ship with a beam so powerful it cancels bullets. There's nothing really wrong with this, but combined with autobombing on some of the ship configurations, it's a bit eaiser than Daioujou, which was known for its incredibly difficulty.

I guess I can understand some of the outrage over something like that. I don't really enjoy how crazy hard Cave games are, but at the same time, it makes me feel like Pimp Hitler when I finally manage to get good at them. Half of the reason I'm not really enjoying Deathsmiles 2X is the incredibly low difficulty level in comparison to previous Cave titles.
Definitely food for thought.

Actually with the release of Daifukkatsu Black Label and the upcoming 'shin' aspects of the new Akai Katana, almost all shortcomings (perceived by diehards) have been addressed. Less laser power and autobombing toggle-able in Daifukkatsu. A longer game with an extra level in Akai Katana Shin... with anticpation being, given some of the changes to the Ninja mode, that the games later levels will be harder.
For me personally, I don't think there's anything wrong with Cave games varying somewhat in difficulty. They don't all need to be Ketsui or Daioujou brutal.

Yeah, DFK Black Label can be played in various different ways and if played the hard way, I'd even say it gets more punishing than DOJ, with alternative midbosses, faster enemies and more and faster bullets.
