Another change is that now the "Mastered" category is now considered a subcategory of "Completed": "Mastered is a special status for Completed games. "
So I guess it doesn't matter if you can beat KOF '95 never losing a round, in Level 8 difficulty, and without continuing. It can't be considered a "mastered" game until you complete it by beating it with all teams and characters?

The Backloggery police aren't going to come after you if you set it to mastered and you didn't beat it with all the characters.

I think "mastered" status relies on the honor system, doesn't it? It'd be asinine to moderate that sorta thing and the people who put things like "Found the warp zones in Super Mario Bros." just make themselves look silly.

But the new definition explicitly says that a game now needs to be "Completed" before any "Mastered" status can be achieved in it. But like I said, if you beat Street Fighter II with, say, Ryu, and with all straight Perfects (which meets the old definition of a game "Mastered"); it now cannot be considered mastered because you still haven't completed the game with the rest of the cast of the game. The Backloggery police aren't going to come after you if you set it to mastered and you didn't beat it with all the characters. My point is that since the definition of "Mastered" has changed, now everybody that had games in that category will have to reevaluate every single entry.

I'm kind of curious as to how anyone hears news about the site at all. I just go there to update my collection and completion status. Didn't even realize there was some kind of community for it.

They have a live stream monday night s which is good fun. Pity is starts a bit too late in my part of the world so I only get the first hour in. There's a bit of community around that.

It actually won't though because it's exactly as subjective as it was a week ago and whether you mark something "Mastered" or "Completed" is totally up to you and you set your own criteria. Of all the things wrong with the new update this is the least important.

Yeah, everyone sets their own definitions, really. I would say that earning "The Boss" medal on MGS4 qualifies as "Mastering" the game, but I haven't earned all of the poor performance medals, so I wouldn't say I've "Completed" it.

Also, Mastered has already counted towards Completed before the update.

My personal definition of Mastered is that not only have I beat the game on its own terms, I've also beaten the game under special terms that the game does not have native support for. Honor system, in other words. Stuff like speed-runs, pacifist runs, no-shop runs, etc.

Also, Mastered has already counted towards Completed before the update. Hmmm yes......, you are right. I forgot about that. So I guess the definition of it has been updated to reflect that... I also remember specifically that the Mastered games were going to stop being counted as Completed also in a future update. It was one of the modifications scheduled to be done in the future (and I guess it didn't happened yet, otherwise my statistic totals would look totally different).

Surely, surely, I am not the only one who looks at this layout and wants to throw up? Oh no of course not, I must be in Drumble's designated 10% who always hates any layout changes, right? Pfft.
Everything turned into that bloated-ass, kitschy round-edged "bubble" crap that I can't stand; just individal game listings are so unbelievably inflated by it. The previous layout was simple boxes; clean, straightforward, no bullshit. This one postively shoves it down your throat! Even simple things like the friends list now have to have lexicons attached, I guess cause it's got to look more hip. Graphics for website in-jokes/"culture" plastered around so you can't escape them, ironically in favor of taking away cute touches like controller pictures in system buttons. I can't imagine how this is supposed to look appealing to just anyone anymore; it now struggles to look distinct from any old social networking vomit. Overdone, overpolished, unfocused.
Having a simple, nonsense-free layout was one of the big things that drew me to the place to begin with. And (in addition to steadily bloating it full of more and more needless crap over months since I joined) they throw it all away for what? Cleaner code? Holy shit, don't even try to sucker me with that excuse! Either the old layout returns in some significant capacity or bite me.

^ Actually, I think Rambo has some pretty good points. I'm pretty disappointed that Backloggery has become some stupid social networking site rather than something for keeping track of your games, too. I'm not as angry as he is about it, but I can definitely see where he's coming from, and the site's just not been going in the directions I've wanted it to since I signed up. It's kinda too late to back out now, though! Oops!
