Maybe I'm missing something. I don't get the social networking complaints. Your profile page has a different aesthetic now, but the features are 100% the same. Your list of Now Playing games, comments left on your profile at the bottom, recent friend updates on the right. I don't see how any of this changes anyone's day-to-day use of the site.

I don't know about that but Raptr sure could do with a re-design. It is the only device I use for game tracking.

^ Actually, I think Rambo has some pretty good points. I'm pretty disappointed that Backloggery has become some stupid social networking site rather than something for keeping track of your games, too. I'm not as angry as he is about it, but I can definitely see where he's coming from, and the site's just not been going in the directions I've wanted it to since I signed up. It's kinda too late to back out now, though! Oops! It's hardly a social networking site, and really aside from the layout changes it's pretty much exactly the same as it was last week, just a little more Web 2.0-y. Drumble's said repeatedly that the purpose of the site was to be a social spot for gamers to compare what games they're currently playing (and emphatically not to compare collections, even though I think that's what most people use it for) so I'm not sure what direction you were expecting it to go in. I've put in a few petitions myself to add Condition markers to games (Complete, loose, NIB, etc) but they've been shot down every time for that reason. There are more sophisticated game tracking sites out there but the entire point of Backloggery is to get people to comment on what you're playing, hence the signatures that show your Now Playing list with links to your comments page. I see what you mean by it not going the way you want it to but it's not like this is out of the blue, all of this stuff has been planned for some time.

You make me want to be forgiving, Ike. And I don't even have any complaints about the Backloggery.
You magnificent bastard.

It looks like the old site and eBay did the fusion dance. Otherwise I can't tell the difference.

There are more sophisticated game tracking sites out there Such as? (If all your answers include sites that only let you add games already in the database, please ignore the question)

It is now considerably more cluttered and has tons more shiny decorations all over the place. I was quite happy with it being plain. Most important change they made (which is like Twitter and many other social networking sites) that really pissed me the fuck off, though, is that if you load a list of any games (for example, hit "all games" on my page) it will only load about 20 games, then ask you to load more. I can't tell you how much this impedes my use of the site, as ctrl+f'ing "all games" was a tremendously useful feature for me. I'm pretty disappointed that Backloggery has become some stupid social networking site rather than something for keeping track of your games, too. Says the girl who loves to comment on the games she's currently playing. ?_? How does this change my point? I love talking about games, but Backloggery's community is 90% Drumble worshipers who care more about the weird memes and updating their page than they do actually playing video games. Some social networking is fine, putting this huge emphasis on it and cluttering the site when Backloggery has such a reprehensibly sycophantic community is not.

So if there was a button next to "Show more Games" labeled "Show all games" you would appreciate that? Or a search function somewhere in the lists?

I can't tell you how much this impedes my use of the site, as ctrl+f'ing "all games" was a tremendously useful feature for me. That was an unfortunately necessary change, given that it's pretty taxing on the servers to constantly have to load the entire list of games every time someone accesses the page, especially if you're someone who has a very large collection (like you and I both do.) For a free, not-for-profit site, BL's servers cannot be expected to continue to handle that kind of workload and still keep new registration open. Registration's been closed for... damn, some time now? 4 months or more? It's an irritating change but an understandable one. That said, having to scroll all the way to the bottom to load more games is pretty damn annoying. Ideally a drop-down menu that allows you to select the number of games to display at the top of the page would be much more helpful. If he wanted to be extra memey he could put a little Tribble icon next to it or something. Most important change they made (which is like Twitter and many other social networking sites) that really pissed me the fuck off, though, is that if you load a list of any games (for example, hit "all games" on my page) it will only load about 20 games, then ask you to load more. So if there was a button next to "Show more Games" labeled "Show all games" you would appreciate that? Or a search function somewhere in the lists? That would defeat the purpose of having the "Show More Games" button for the reasons stated above. It's just not practical from the point of view of the server. There are more sophisticated game tracking sites out there Such as? (If all your answers include sites that only let you add games already in the database, please ignore the question) They do. Raptr is the big one I know of, and it's basically like Facebook with a game tracker attached, but it does have a few cool features like Twitter linking and (my favorite) a pie-chart readout of the percentage of games owned for whichever console vs. the others. Adding from the database is annoying but that's the only way to feasibly have an efficient search function. This is impossible with Backloggery if, say, I wanted to find all the people who own The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky. Think of all the different ways it could be spelled: The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky The Legend of Heroes VI Trails in the Sky Legend of Heroes VI Part I Trails in the Sky Trails in the Sky etc. not including typoed entries.

Actually, it would even be alright if there was a properly managed option to add new games to the database. I'm using a movie/version database, and new suggestions get worked in pretty quickly (you can even upload them directly when you have your account upgraded, which is usually possible after just a few good contributions).
I tried and submitted a new game and a correction for an existing entry to gamefaqs about two months ago. Nothing has happened.

GameFAQs leaves incorrect, blatantly false FAQs up for years at a time even after being reported. The fact that they just now, in 2010, switched over to using (some) HTML for (some) titles should be indicative of their overall quality.

Looks like a search function has been added to search in individual Backloggeries.
