Apparently, Noriyoshi Ohba left Gung-Ho last year to join some company called Premium Agency.

The PS2 Shinobi is one of my favourite games on the console, and while I realize this probably won't be anything like it, I'm still pretty interested! Also, I am not worried about the developers track record. Many small companies make stupid kiddie games to make a living. It doesn't mean they can't do great things too. I have faith!

Even a port of Shinboi on PS2 or Nightshade would've done me fine.

Im not so worried about a track record of licenses as I'm worried of an track record of rpg's and metroidvania's (or what folk considerd their finest games). And as you can read earlier I have great fears that this bugger is gonna end up as a metroidvania! EDIT: Teaser?

The fact that the teaser shows the Genesis version of Shadow Dancer and left out the arcade version (which is a completely different game) has me worried. I don't like it when Western game designers don't have a clear idea of the history of the franchises they're working on. It's almost as bad as when Contra 4 claimed that the Japanese arcade version of the original game was called Gryzor.

Yeah, they like left out half of the games associated with Shinobi.
Then again, who wants to be reminded of Cyber Shinobi?

They put in GG Shinobi II as Shinobi II :/ As if it was Chronologically after Revenge of Shinobi... But Revenge of Shinobi = The Super Shinobi and Shinobi III = The Super Shinobi II.
They don't even know the Shinobi history.

Didn't even notice that. Shinobi II for the Game Gear was just a sequel to the Game Gear Shinobi game, which was completely different from the arcade. What a bunch of poseurs.

I think Revenge of Shinobi could be considered Shinobi II.
Dat Onyx: crap, I didn't remember the PSP Assassin's Creed. Guess that's FOUR games from them that I've played.
Fun fact: Griptonite's Assassin's Creed games are the only ones in the series that I've ever played. Even though I do have the first two on my 360.

If you want to get technical, Shadow Dancer was the "true" arcade sequel to Shinobi, as it had the same game system. Revenge and Shinobi III were more like spin-offs. (Shinobi III was just a market-based title anyway, both games were released under the title of The Super Shinobi in Japan).

Well, yeah, Shadow Dancer basically IS a true Shinobi sequel. I meant that, at least considering the US and European names, ROS could be Shinobi II, instead of GG Shinobi II.

The problem is that Shinobi III was literally the third Shinobi game for the Genesis, since Shadow Dancer: The Secret of Shinobi was promoted as a sequel to The Revenge of Shinobi (even though it's clearly not). They even pulled a Contra III (only in reverse) by changing the main character's identity from Hayate (Joe Musashi's son) to Joe Musashi himself (at least in the instruction manual).
So either, Shinobi III is the direct sequel to Revenge of Shinobi (counting the arcade/Master System original as the first game and Secret as a side-story) or it's a sequel to Secret of Shinobi (counting Revenge as the first one). That's why the U.S. titles don't make any sense.
Also, the Game Gear games were still called The G.G. Shinobi and The G.G. Shinobi Part II outside Japan, only the titles on the box covers were changed.

The timeline in that video is sloppy and fails to adequately depict the evolution of the Shinobi formula. A more effective lineage would be Shinobi (ARC) -> Super Shinobi -> Super Shinobi II -> Shinobi Legions -> Shinobi PS2. "Super Shinobi" arguably had the most influence on the overall course of the series, as it established the life bar, finite throwing knives, ninja magic that didn't just clear the screen, standard level progression, etc.

Or they could just show all the proper games in their proper order. 1987 Shinobi (AC) 1989 Shadow Dancer (AC) The Super Shinobi (MD) 1990 Shadow Dancer: The Secret of Shinobi (MD) 1991 The G.G. Shinobi (GG) 1992 The G.G. Shinobi Part II: The Silent Fury (GG) 1993 The Super Shinobi II (MD) 1995 Shin Shinobi Den (SS) 2002 Shinobi (PS2) 2003 Kunoichi (PS2)
