From Haz: press.nintendo.com/articles.jsp?id=30048Is this to undercut the Vita, or is Nintendo getting real desperate, who knows? The price cut helps a lot, but I'm still not quite sure if I want one yet. I'd give it another 6-12 months to see if anything good comes out.

I'm still concerned about battery life and 3DS exclusives (as well as whether or not that Web browser is any good, since I no longer have a pocket computer), but the price drop is that much more tempting.

Wow, that's a really great price drop. Nintendo is also giving away 20 free Virtual Console games to people who register for the "Nintendo 3DS Ambassador" program before 11:59pm EST on August 11th (so, to people who have already purchased the system prior to this future price drop). That includes ten NES games and ten Game Boy Advance games.
Goddamn, that's amazing. This move does reek of desperation on Nintendo's part however. While this makes the system more appealing to me, it does make me wonder if it will be enough to save the 3DS in the future.

There still aren't really any games/exclusives for it that I want. I might end up getting it after another price cut at this rate..

Not surprised at all Nintendo would pull that ace from their sleeve and undercut the Vita; the 3DS only costs $104 or so to make.
Feels good man being an early adopter... Glad about 3DS GBA VC happening, especially.

I've thought about this a little more, and personally, since the 20 "free" games and the price drop cannot be had simultaneously, I'm still not sure when exactly I'll get a 3DS. Plus it's not like the GBA games are exclusive, since... you can still get them for the Game Boy Advance. Plus Legends 3 cancellation

While the price cut ticks me off as an early adopter, if this means the 3DS market will grow I'm all for it. The internet has not been kind to the 3DS so far, though in all honesty most criticism is hard to take seriously.

After checking the Q1 results of Nintendo, 3DS has fell way behind the forecasts .

A price cut was inevitable given the pricing of the Vita at $250.

I don't know why, but seeing Nintendo hurt like this is delicious news to me. It's probably because I don't like the Wii, Wii U, or 3DS at all.

This is what they get for shitting on Operation Rainfall and catering to casual fans for so long. My money will be going toward a Vita with Dragons Crown.

<- My reaction to most of these reactions. This was likely the plan all along. At least once the Vita was announced. The only surprising thing is that some of you felt the need to run out and buy it day one. The silly thing doesn't even have any good games yet. And so far, relatively few on the horizon. Nintendo's not hurting. This is precisely why they design cheap hardware they don't have to sell at a loss. If dropping the price 30% doubles sales, they'll still come out ahead. And they already got the early adopter money. What the 3DS needs right now is a killer app to help it gain traction. The price drop will help too. All this moaning and groaning is entirely premature. The 3DS may not be a runaway success like the DS or the Wii was, but I still expect it to have a nice long life with plenty of solid titles. The DS didn't really take off either until the Lite came out. Don't be shocked if there's a hardware refresh down the road 12 to 18 months. This is Nintendo after all.

Wow, an 80 dollar price drop within 6 months of release. This is unprecedented and very funny.
