The price reduction is nice, but that just means I'd spend $170 on a fancy paperweight instead of $250 on a fancy paperweight. Right now there's zero on the system that really grabs me and says "BUY THIS YOU HEATHEN!" Once it gets some games I want, then we'll talk.
PSVita is still looking infinitely more attractive.

If my DS suddenly died, I might buy a 3DS. But then again, I might just as easily buy an XL instead.
Other than that, I can't really think of a compelling reason to buy one at this point. Maybe when Rune Factory 4 comes out.

I'm tempted (if for the promise of Star Fox, and I guess for Devil Survivor Overclocked), but I'd be worried about them suddenly announcing an "XL" with improved battery life, or discontinuing development on the 3DS to play catch-up with Vita.
Here's what I'm wondering though - if you buy a 3DS beforehand, do you think they'll price match it after the drop? That way you could get the 20 games and the price reduction as well.

I'm not interested in Starfox 64 after I heard what they did to the controls. If you want a proper "flightstick"-type control scheme like the original, you have to put up with the damn gyro sensor.

Wait, what the fuck? There's a damn analog nub on there! It's one of the big additions over prior DS models! Why can't they use it? What's your source? Argh, it's the Zelda DS games and Star Fox Command all over again, from the sound of it. It's nice to use the touchscreen for certain things, but that doesn't mean to force it on every freaking thing!

It's about damn time they cut the price. Just when the DS gets popular, they suddenly pump out a new device and games exclusively for it and expect me to pay over a hundred for the damn thing. Way to pull a Microsoft on us, Nintendo.

I will make do with the DS Lite. It is region-free and plays GBA games. The 3DS plays N64 games in 3-D and cost more than a Xbox 360...no thank you.

So apparently the 20 free games for being a "3DS ambassador" are tied to the system itself and not the user. Nintendo, it's 2011, learn how the goddamn internet works already.

Well, that's a problem when Nintendo thinks the world wide web was actually made by a giant spider...

This is not a New Thing. It's never been a New Thing. All downloadable software across all Nintendo platforms is hardware-locked. It's a broken system that makes content sharing and transfer freaking impossible. It made sense on Wii, where "one per household" is not an unreasonable assumption, but for handhelds, it's pure bastardry.

Especially when you're going to probably want one of the later hardware revisions.

I knew about the problem with the Wii and DSi, but I had assumed they would have implemented a better system for the 3DS, given that competent digital software management is basic expected functionality from devices with digitally distributed content. Nintendo's digital distribution strategy was awful and dated even when it was new, and at this point it's just embarrassing that they're still using such an atrocious system.

Eh, I still don't really regret buying one, since I needed something to replace my dying DS Lite anyway. On the other hand, I literally just modded my PSP and put a bunch of emulator stuff on it, including pretty much everything they're offering to ambassadors. So... dammit, lol.
edit: Also, holy hell at their software management system still being used. That is so annoying.
