Just FYI, we still aren't getting GBA VC. The GBA games are going to be an ambassador incentive only.Don't fall for it. There is no way on earth that Nintendo is going to spend money developing a GBA emulator for a struggling system and not monetize it.

I don't know why, but seeing Nintendo hurt like this is delicious news to me. It's probably because I don't like the Wii, Wii U, or 3DS at all. I wouldn't call it "delicious news," but it is nice to know that the world is beginning to realize they don't have to drink the Nintendo Kool-Aid any more. Nintendo has been coasting along for years on their first-party IPs and casual gimmicks, and it's nice to know that they're actually going to have to start making an effort again. That said, the 3DS price drop is a smart move on their part. Furthermore, they're making up for the difference in price to existing owners with a shitload of free virtual console software, which is pretty decent of them. What is not cool is limiting the GBA releases to said existing 3DS owners. Rewarding early adopters is good, but they're also indirectly punishing new customers by withholding games from them, which is fucking horrible, particularly given that games are exactly what the 3DS needs right now.

The only way I'm ever going to care for a GBA emu is when they offer Ninja Five-O.
On-topic: Finally the thing drops to a vaguely reasonable price for a handheld. Still not gonna buy it before the next sale on Amazon, as here it's gonna be about 170 EUROS.
EDIT: By the way, is there any way to rig the 3DS up so I can take screenshots from games?

Man, I am surprised it is failing as hard...but also not too surprised- I mean they did launch in prematurely as far as I am concerned- why launch it without decent games or any killer ones due soon? A bad move- especially at that price. I do kinda hope they bounce back and start putting more effort in after this launch cause there's a 6 year old in me that can't stand to see Nintendo fail... But then there is the 29 year old in me who says they brought it on themselves...

Eh, I could try to spin this one way or another, but all I really want is for the system to survive.

Someone on another board I post at made the argument that Nintendo is at their best when they're doing poorly, or feeling threatened. I think there's something to that. I doubt Nintendo would be making all these announcements on the same day if the 3DS were lighting sales charts on fire. They probably would even have delayed some of these features or release dates by months, rather than confirming them all for the near future. I just hope that their current failure spurs NOA to give more original IPs a chance. NOA's absolute unwillingness to give new IPs on the Wii a chance to succeed is my main issue with Nintendo at the moment.

Don't fall for it. There is no way on earth that Nintendo is going to spend money developing a GBA emulator for a struggling system and not monetize it. Their exact words were "no plans." So yeah, they're not coming to the regular eShop.

"No plans" means "no announced plans" in Nintendo-speak. They could have the whole GBA library ready to go tomorrow, and they'd still say that if they weren't ready to announce it.

Just checked and Nintendo's stock is down 10% today, and 30% over the last 3 months. So market sentiment is definitely against them. And they posted their first quarterly loss, apparently ever. They had a few of those a few years ago, but those were the very first ever.

I was going off the Reuters article. It says it's their first quarterly "operating loss". I'm not clear on the distinction between an operating loss and an overall loss - if there is one. EDIT: Wiki to the rescue. Operating profit is gross profit minus operating expenses, but doesn't take into account things like taxes, interest payments, etc. So actually it looks like they had a net loss for the same quarter last year as well, but now the situation has gotten worse, since this quarter they didn't even recoup their operating expenses.

This massive price reduction is more tempting, although I must admit that there's still a lack of a killer app to compel me to buy a 3DS. Maybe Super Mario 3DS, Resident Evil Revelations or a formal Super Smash Bros. 3DS reveal will be what it takes...still waiting, though. Oddly enough, I'm more jazzed about the Vita, although I know very little about its specs...I think I was just impressed with Project Gravity.
