No, I'm still playing it, I just haven't made much progress. However, I did just mop up all the quests in Quartz and found the Mayor!
It's weird, I've been wanting an RPG that doesn't hold your hand for a long time, and yet when I get it, I don't know what to do. There's definitely an order in which you're supposed to tackle things, but otherwise there's no overarching quest structure. You pretty much just do whatever you want as soon as you discover it. It makes keeping track of quests a chore at times, though, given there's no in game journal to record your progress.
Still, even with that caveat, the game is oddly mesmerizing. When you start steamrolling through dudes and completing quests, it's really satisfying.

Im mostly chewing down the Steam Christmas sales, but I havent forgotten this. Like Snarboo Im pretty much stuck in a point where I have no idea where to go next. Just slaughtering some robots in Vegas and trying out every possible door. There's yet another church with killer monks or something and some of the robots are still particularly nasty even to a well-equipped party.
In between celebrating Christmas, I'll give the game few more shots, then probably concentrate on preparing for the podcast with some research.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure there's some really high powered weapons out there with which to kill the robots. Has anyone tried going back to Darwin yet?

This is a total sequence break, but if you want some really great armor and weapons early in the game, here's how you can get some easily:
Enter Darwin from the bottom left (don't forget that you have to approach Darwin from the north to avoid the radiation), and once in town, enter the first building to your right. You'll be asked to provide a password. Answer "CRETIAN." This will give you access to the black market, where you can buy Kevlar Vests (6 AC, about $1700 each), Chainsaws (incredibly strong melee weapon, $500 each), and tons of guns and ammo.[/spoiler]

To the spoiler
I did that actually. However, I managed to get through without the password and had to fight the guards afterwards. I think they'll throw you out first when you guess wrong, but If you repeat, they'll attack you. You can still use the shop though.
If you need money in that situation, good idea is to sell explosives you have. You're gonna get more of those in Vegas when killing the robots, as they sometimes drop plenty of them.
Remember to give everyone a canteen so crossing the desert will be less tedious. Also, if you approach the town from north, you'll have to cross a areas of radiation (geiger counter helps you detect those spots).
Still though, even with arming people with NATO assault rifles and chainsaws wont help against that scorpion-looking robot thats around the middle of Vegas. Its armor is just too thick or something. Tried using explosives, but they either miss a lot (despite character having at least minimal skills to use them) or dont do any damage at all. Same goes fighting against bunch of monks at the church.
I looted something called "Sonic Keys" from the robots that looked like motorcycles. What are those? Some sort keys or weapons?

Rockets will work on the giant scorpion tank robot, but you'll need to get reasonably close if you want to hit and do any real damage. Don't forget that you can split the party into multiple teams! Spreading out can help reduce the amount of damage your team takes, as the primary target of the scorpion can use the Evade command to minimize damage while the rest of the party runs closer.
Also, as you said, anybody carrying a canteen in their inventory can survive in the desert, and you caan use this for free healing! Walk into the hottest part of the desert (you'll get a message saying something like "It's VERY hot"), then rest. Random encounters can't happen on these tiles, so you can rest as long as it takes to fully heal your party.
As for detecting radiation, you don't need a Geiger counter! Radioactive tiles will appear with a radiation symbol between the hours of 18:00-6:00 in the game. Geiger counters are still useful, but when in doubt, always try to explore a new area while radioactive tiles are visible in order to minimize the risk of accidents.
Sonic Keys are keys. Keep them.

Okay, before I leave Needles for good, what is that one building in the southeast corner that asks you for a password? Is it worth bothering with?

I'm wondering that myself. You could probably blow the door open with TNT and fight whoever is inside, but I imagine there's a proper way to do that quest.
Alright, I just cleared out the Blood Temple and solved the Bloodstaff murders. The Bishop in the Mushroom Cloud Church gave me a bunch of items that should come in handy for Vegas, including a few assault rifles to arm the rest of my team and an engine for the broken Jeep. I also cheated and used Feynman's advice to buy a few chainsaws and rad suits.
This game really starts to pick up after you get a few promotions and upgrade your equipment. You go from getting your ass kicked to wiping the floor with everyone you meet. Having a few assault rifles doesn't hurt either. It's really fun dumping an entire magazine into a room to clear it out.

Wasteland was only released for Apple II, C64, and DOS. To my knowledge, it has not been translated into any other languages. That said, the English in the game is not particularly complicated. And of course, if you have any questions, you can post them to this thread. Good luck! UPDATEPodcast is up! www.mediafire.com/?gwfr01bm8wr6vj9

I started playing this game late last night. I didn't get far; I found a house which had some items hidden inside, I learned about a quest involving a boy's dog Rex, and I agreed to help some farmers fight armored enemies, or rabbits or something. I have Interplay's 10 Year Anthology, which includes a book with all of the Wasteland material inside, including the story paragraphs, which I'm happy to have. Wasteland seems to crash really easily whenever I minimize DOSbox and check for info online, so it's nice that I don't have to do that in order to know what's going on.
I don't remember the stats for all my characters, but I decided to have at least one character who specializes in melee combat (he has 2 points in Brawling and one point in Pugilism), just because I thought it would be cool to have. He can also use weapons too, in case he needs to be far away from an enemy as possible.

OK how the hell do you start a new game after you've already saved in this one? I wanted to start over again and make different characters but it keeps taking me back to my last save and there is absolutely jack dick in the game, manual or any FAQs online showing any indication that there is any way to reset my game. The only way I've found is if I delete my folder entirely and re-download/unzip it again, which is a completely asinine way of doing things. Help, anyone?

That's exactly how you restart your game if you didn't back up the main save file. I forget which file it is, but one of them holds your save data. I recommend reinstalling the game, copying the clean save file to a separate folder, and then savescumming your way through the rest of the game in case you make a mistake. I believe you can head back to the Ranger Station to delete your current characters and create new ones, too, but then you're losing all the experience your older characters had gained.
