So after playing through Dragon's Trap on the stream last night, I spent a bit more time with it today. I've made it past Piranha Man's section and now have the Lion Man form. His wide sword slashes really come in handing for hitting monsters and breaking blocks, but his weakness to fireballs is kind of a pain. It figures the next area would be filled with enemies that shoot at you. :/ This game is a vast improvement over Monster Land IMO, but as a result it's less interesting to talk about. It looks great and it plays great, but there's nothing about it that really stands out. I like the focus on changing form to get into new areas, but I'm not liking the reliance on charm points to buy items from stores. It's hard enough getting the money to buy new stuff, much less having to grind up a completely unrelated stat just to buy the stuff in the first place. The bosses in this game are also really bland and tedious to fight. Most of them just vomit projectiles at you and move in an annoying pattern, necessitating that you hit them first before they can even attack. The pirate pig shopkeepers are awesome, though.

I'm thinking of going back through and playing Dragon's Trap to get an idea on what the required CP is on the items; if you get to a store and the items aren't available, try changing your equipment to max your CP (or later on when you have the thunder saber, change forms to Mouse Man or Lion/Tiger Man who have higher charm scores). If you still can't get it, you either aren't supposed to have that stuff yet, or you need to grind for stones. Each stone ups your CP by one, and earlier on it makes a difference (such as being able to get the Dragon Armor from the shop in the middle of the lava field).

I'm really struggling to understand why they did this. First of all, what the hell kinda shopkeeper refuses to sell you things because you're not charming enough. Some crazy microeconomics going on here in Monster World... Second, is there any rhyme or reason to charm stone drops? I noticed that many enemies will give you hearts and even potions if your HP is low. But I've seen no such correlation with charm stones.

I haven't seen any correlation other than they seem to appear in some places but not others. One place I farmed for them was the jungle, I got them from the skeletons. Also, keep note that some pieces of armor work better than others on certain forms, so remember to check your equipment each time you change. This is really important in the last dungeon because I kept forgetting to change before the tiger man part and would get raped by the projectiles.

I'm stuck on the blue knight in Monster Land. I can unload 8 Fireballs and 20 bombs on him and he's still unhurt.

I'm really struggling to understand why they did this. First of all, what the hell kinda shopkeeper refuses to sell you things because you're not charming enough. Some crazy microeconomics going on here in Monster World... It's sort of like Spelunker 2, which had a "virtue" stat even though it was clearly tacked on. It's one of those things where one of the designers was probably a tabletop or CRPG fan and wanted to implement a "charisma" stat to better enhance the "role-playing". I think the implication is that the better looking you are (as determined by the equipment and the pretty stones) or the better sweet talker you are, or whatever, the more likely the shopkeeper is going to sell you their fancy equipment. Sort of the same way that you can't walk into a super upscale clothes store wearing jeans and a t-shirt, because the salespeople won't take you seriously. That's my rationale, anyway, however a stretch it seems in the actual game. Functionally all it does it promote grinding and unnecessary equipment swaps.

The pigs are lolicons, that's why they expect you to have lots of CP.

You need to get your hands on the Dragon Armor, which allows you to walk through lava without getting hurt. Go to the desert area and head right instead of left, I believe the armor is sold in a shop in that area. Once you go across the lava all the way to the right, you'll unlock the ability to break certain bricks with your sword, and that should open up a couple new paths for you. I'm currently stuck at the temple with all the ninjas and samurais. By the time I get to the boss, I've so little health left that it's just pitiful. What armor do you have? It's much easier when you get the crystal armor and/or shield, which you can get to with mouse man in the tower at the beginning. They're really expensive though, and you'll have to grind for a while...the approach to the samurai castle is a good place to get money though, especially with those sunglasses clouds. I just recently got enough CP to unlock the items in that shop. The first thing I bought was the sword, which I don't regret, but it is going to be a bit of a cash grind before I can pick up the armor.

I ended up skipping the sword because Lion/Tiger Man gets a damage bonus with the Muramasa that was comparable (i.e., I reloaded ;p.). The armor is essential though, and so is magic - the green and blue samurai can do a lot of damage, but if you stun them first with a fireball or tornado you can slash them to death without them doing their annoying dodge/shoot combo. Crappy thing is that you can get the Legendary equipment right after you finish this dungeon, and they're (mostly) free.
BTW, did you get the magic saber? If not, it's in the area you need Mouse Man to get into at the beginning of that cave area. It's not really necessary until you're ready to go to the final dungeon though.

Two questions.
1. What's up with the magic sword? It creates blocks I can walk on, but only in one room! What's the point?
2. Can you max out on charm stones? Because I have 30 and it seems like the enemies aren't dropping them anymore...

1. What's up with the magic sword? It creates blocks I can walk on, but only in one room! What's the point? That will come in handy later during the final dungeon. 2. Can you max out on charm stones? Because I have 30 and it seems like the enemies aren't dropping them anymore... Honestly I have no idea. I need to see how many I have, because I'm pretty sure it's above thirty. After three straight days of trying, dying and grinding as Lion-man, I have finally defeated the Samurai Dragon and have been granted the Hawk-man form. Being able to fly everywhere is really nice, but unfortunately he dies when even the slightest breeze so much as touches him, much less a fireball lobbed his way by an irate cyclops. It figures then that I have to beat the final dungeon as the Hawk-man. However, having the Hawk-man form allows you access to the best gear in the game. You simply have to: Fly to the right from the starting town, until you arrive at the starting castle again. Inside you will find two pieces of legendary gear dropped from different monsters, so be sure to kill them all. The third legendary item, the Legendary Shield, can be found in a hidden shop inside of the well you pop out of during the intro.
I also discovered something very interesting after exploring a bit: the Hades Armor you can buy from the shop above the Samurai Castle works like a life potion. If you die while it is equipped, it will shatter and then refill your entire life bar. There's another unique item I found in a shop that only the Hawk-man can reach called the Heavenly Shield. I have no idea what it does, but I wouldn't be surprised if it works the same way. Be sure to unequip the Hades Armor when entering shops, as it plummets your charm points while being worn.

Ok, awesome - did not realize that Hades Armor did that. I will probably use it on the last boss.
Heavenly Shield is just a normal shield, but guess what - it gives you 10 more defense points than the Legendary one when you're hawk man.
One thing I hate are the elixirs - the amount of life you get back is random (I've seen 1, 2, or full hearts). I keep crapping out when I'm on the last boss.
EDIT: just beat the game. Main thing is have full elixirs, and watch his pattern - if you know when/where he's moving up or down, you can have him walk right into your sword if you stay above or below that and stab like a motherfucker.

Here's a tip for those of you who need to grind for gold: chests reset every time you load from a password in Dragon's Trap! I have no idea if reloading a save in Dragon's Curse works the same way, but I wouldn't be surprised if it does. Knowing this is especially handy when: You return to the Mecha Dragon's castle. When you enter the room you fought him in as Hawk-man, there's a chest there that gives you a ludicrous amount of gold. Just clear out that castle, loot the chest, get a password, then reload your game, and you'll soon have more gold than you could ever want. I finally made it up to the final castle after grinding for a bit today. It really puts your skills to the test by making you play through the castle as each form in order, minus the dragon form. I managed to make it up to the boss, only to croak shortly after entering the room. Frankly, it was my fault for not bringing any life potions with me, but I mostly just wanted to scope the castle out. Will retry again tomorrow.
