I prefer Dynastic Hero myself. Has a lot more "character" I think. Some may find it corny, but I like the whole insect vs. amphibians/reptiles theme. The red book soundtrack is good stuff too (even if the intro is mega-cheesy).
As for Arsha/Asha, that's the problem with those stretched out A's in Japanese. It's really a toss up whether it's representing an R or not. That kinda sucks that Sega didn't go with my preferred version, but I guess I'll live. :P They totally fail at consistency, though. I'm pretty sure that there were official products related to Monster World IV that had "Arsha" written out in English, like for the trading figure (which is so freakin' cute, by the way). But I doubt the localizers involved even knew about that stuff. I doubt they care about obsessive nerds like myself either, haha.

Back to Monster World IV for a moment:
-By the time I'm ready to set off from the hub city to the next area, should I have three blue hearts with two Life Drops left over? Just want to make sure I'm not missing anything.
-Should I take the Flame Shield or the Thunder Shield? I'm guessing the Flame Shield since I'm heading toward a volcano, but I could be in for a very rude surprise for all I know.
-The lady that buys gold bars will start at 500G each, but she raises it to 1000G per bar after you get your blue Pepelogoo (so DON'T SELL THEM until you do). Are there any future price increases for those gold bars?

There's a bit of fanart on Pixiv, and surprisingly it's not pornographic...go figure. I did find one rather cheesecake art of Asha from Monster World IV. In fact, most of the fanart are about Asha than any other character from the rest of the series. Still, there's a bit more fanart for the series than I expected, since I always assumed the Hudson Soft remakes were more popular (I guess that was only true for the original Wonder Boy). Haha, I missed that one. I'm surprised that there's not more of her, to be honest. Alright, in Dragon's Trap/Curse, I found a really good place to max out your elixirs/medicines...this is really important because later on they're as much as 1700+ gold apiece because of the wacky scaling. Long story short, go up the tower in the first town (the one you took to the pyramid). When you get to the desert, head right to the lava fields. After the first screen, you'll come to a red flying ogre on the second screen - kill him. After that, alternate between killing the green ogre on the first screen and the red ogre on the second screen - eventually you'll get up to 3 (the maximum) amount of medicines. This is also a good way to collect fireballs and hearts. Also, for those of you who just want to screw around with the different forms and weapons, or cheat and go straight to the last level here's a password for Dragon's Curse: WOOBDBNVWCK1TP

Since everybody's playing MW4 anyway, would it be remiss to add it to the official list? -The lady that buys gold bars will start at 500G each, but she raises it to 1000G per bar after you get your blue Pepelogoo (so DON'T SELL THEM until you do). Are there any future price increases for those gold bars? Yes, Pepe gets upgrades throughout the game and the fatter he is the more she gives you. (I think.)

I think it's kind of implicit that everyone here is covering the entire series, not just Monster Land and WB3: Dragon's Trap/Curse. Might as well do a whole series retrospective at this point. Also, if that's the case, at what points would you recommend selling off the gold bars if you're really short on cash and don't feel like grinding for it (or if there's enough to fill my inventory entirely)?

I picked up MW4 for virtual console but haven't started on it yet. I also got MW2 (or 1, or whatever) for VC Arcade, and maybe there's a big difference between this game and the SMS one, but man, I didn't like this game before, and it's even worse than I remember.

Has anyone beat Dragon's Trap yet though? Joestar seems to have gotten farther than anyone else. I'm still the lizard man. And I have no idea what to do next. Although I did find that medicine-farming spot he mentioned. Monster World IV is in the randomizer queue already. It's paired up with Wonder Boy in Monster World, actually.

I don't know anyone that has, though Snarboo did make it to Piranha-Man form.
Also didn't know that the last two Wonder Boy titles were also queued up and ready for picking. Is it the same with the King's Quest games?
And if you don't mind me asking for help on MWIV again, I've found the tree with the Pepe Fruit, but I can't seem to get that damn fruit despite my best efforts. Touching it does nothing, trying to cut it down does nothing, throwing Pepe at it does nothing...
Oh wait, you have to press up in front of the tree so that Asha will shake the fruit off and Pepe will automatically eat it.

Are there any future price increases for those gold bars? It's been awhile since I've played Monster World IV, but as I recall, if you answer "no" when she asks you to sell a gold bar, she'll raise the price a bit and ask you again. This is an extra on top of the price increase that occurs as the game progresses. Just another way to get as much as possible out of that gold! As for Dragon's Trap, I just got the Lion Man. It's fun, but has some real annoyances. In particular, having to remember which shops still have items to buy and running around to see if you have enough CP to buy them every single time you get a new piece of armor or monster form is really obnoxious.

I tried telling her no every time she asked about buying one of my gold bars, but I haven't noticed any price increases beyond what must be the normal ones. Right now, it's at 1,500G, and she has three Pepelogoos, presumably compensating for something. And while I'm at it, is there any difference between the Shah's Sword and Cyrus's Sword other than one of them being 1,200G more expensive? They're both indicated as only having +2 Strength.

I'd love to play the other games too, but doing the whole series would be overkill. Besides, having it pop up later would give people a chance to play it (MWIV) on Live or PS3. I've gotten to the last boss, vampire dragon, and it's a bitch. I haven't figured out its pattern yet because it killed me rather quickly (I was down to 4 hearts and no elixirs). And Hawk Man kind of sucks after the greatness that is Lion/Tiger Man. You will need three elixirs if you're trying the last area - there are some really cheap enemies (blue ninjas) that can take out a third of your health in one hit. Anyway, it is kind of nice after farming elixirs, you can pretty much wantonly throw out fireballs to stun enemies. The fireball-shooting heads on the other hand... When/if people get closer to the later areas remind me, the Legendary equipment was mostly easy to find, except for one item...I will say that they're all in the same area, so if you're missing one, don't leave too fast! Another hint is that if you find a new chest that's empty, remember it because it has a heart container, and you missed an earlier one. If you get a new form and didn't get a heart container, then you missed something either in the vicinity of the boss' lair or somewhere requiring the powers of the previous form (i.e., wall climbing, etc.). The last heart container is in the final dungeon. Also I think that Mike beat it before me...not sure if this was a while ago though.

You need to get your hands on the Dragon Armor, which allows you to walk through lava without getting hurt. Go to the desert area and head right instead of left, I believe the armor is sold in a shop in that area. Once you go across the lava all the way to the right, you'll unlock the ability to break certain bricks with your sword, and that should open up a couple new paths for you. I'm currently stuck at the temple with all the ninjas and samurais. By the time I get to the boss, I've so little health left that it's just pitiful.

It's much easier when you get the crystal armor and/or shield, which you can get to with mouse man in the tower at the beginning. They're really expensive though, and you'll have to grind for a while...the approach to the samurai castle is a good place to get money though, especially with those sunglasses clouds.
