Capcom has been pimping out Mega Man more than Street Fighter. While I admire their attempt at continuity with X, Zero and ZX It's getting to where I think it's too much Mega man.
Granted I love the PSP Remake of X even if it is too easy. Power'd up is good from the demo I played and ZX looks awesome but there's one glaring problem..........the Orignal series is unresolved if Capcom is trying to tie every game into each other outside of EXE where's the Orignal game where Zero goes Bezerk?
Minor gripe
ZX does look like it's FINALLY going to offer something new though. But I don't have a DS (yet) so I won't know.

Personally, I like to pretend that Mega Man ended on the Super Nintendo (mostly because I don't have a Playstation anymore). There's just too much to keep track of otherwise. The X series has become BS, the original series is forgotten, Legends went and disappeared without a trace, and Battle Network was a cool concept but... it's just not Mega Man.

Don't follow Megaman for the plot. It's a mess, and it's more retarded than Sonic the Hedgehog.
I think the last Megaman game I liked was Megaman & Bass for the GBA, which was just a port anyway. Zero 1 was OK but I never got into them beyond then. I did hear ZX is more exploration-based, which I dig. I can't stand Battle Network at all.

x4 was the best X game ever If you have a gamecube pick up the X collection. Technically the X series ends with X6 and X7 and 8 and that RPG are side stories.
The Orignal series needs closure, we kinda know through the X Games what happens but it's pretty vague maybe we're supposed to know as much as X and Zero do about what happend?
I don't know why Capcom ignores the Orignal series now we still have Power'd up which is probably as close to a real Mega Man Classic game as we'll get.
I do try to follow the plot but only because as a Kid I used to tell people Dr Wily lived in my attic.
Speaking of Wily anybody else notice how Heihachi Mishima keeps looking more and more like Wily?

Kurt were you able to get anywhere in the GBA Mega Man and Bass? I remember actually completing the rom at one point. The GBA port just cuts off the viewable area to preserve the original aspect ratio, so I had a lot of trouble with it as I'd be getting shot by stuff I couldn't see, more blind jumps than the Death Bridge in Ninja Gaiden, etc.
I used to get Mega Man games all the time but I don't bother to keep track anymore. The Zero series is basically the only line worth keeping up with now. ZX looks great too though. The first two Battle Networks are fun but three and up are pretty horrid. Breaking it into multiple versions was just silly.

I can't speak for him but I did beat the Rockman and Forte Rom once but the GBA port I haven't done anything beyond beating Cold Man I had to beat the rom with cheats too DAMN that game was harder than a 14 year old boy in a Girls locker room
X6 is pretty brutal too
I think ZX is the continuation of the Zero story taking place even farther into the future than Zero does.

I didn't even realize there was supposed to be an issue until I read about complaints online. Then again I'd never really put much time into the SFC version either. Zero 2 was just too hard for me. Zero 3 seemed to bog down with more stuff that seemed unnecessary, like that whole cyberworld. Didn't play Zero 4. I can't play them on the regular GBA anymore, the GBA SP is too cramped, the DS has the screwed up button configurations, and the GC d-pad is too crappy to really play them right. Then I bought one of those Hori GC pads, which is much better, but then never got around to going back to any of them.

Forgive my fanboyism, but there can never be enough Mega Man as far as the orginal and X/Zero/ZX series are concerned. I do wish there was more classic Mega Man and some closure to it, and I still like the X series despite the dip it took around X5-X7 (X8 and Command Mission were actually pretty good). The only series I haven't really played or cared for is the EXE series.

I've only really played through the original and X series, but followed the Legends, Zero, and EXE series a bit using the Mega Man Homepage at www.mmhp.netI understand the X series was supposed to end at MMX5 and segway into the Zero series, but by that time, someone else with in Capcom started X6 (which was a fairly wretched game imo). The EXE series wrapped up, though there's a kind of sequel series to it underway (like the X series to the original, or Zero to the X series). I still own the original 6 NES games in cart form and still dust them off to play every so often, the same with the first five X games (minus X3). The rest were either beyond my interest (X6, X7, Legends), or beyond my means (the GBA stuff). They've been all at the same level of mediocre to exceptional quality (though they ALL still have yet to surpass the fun factor of Mega Man 2). While there's a lot of the same, Capcom's streak of innovation here is widely known, showing that there is at least, something working here. They could use some innovation, and maybe try to tie up the Legends or original series somehow, but eh, I can't really say no to seeing more of the Blue Bomber.

As far as I or anyone know, Megaman legends is even further in the future than ZX is.

I got tired of the X series after 4, the Battle Network series after 3, but I've really enjoyed the Zero series. I really wish I could play Maverick Hunter and Powered Up, but there's no way I'm dumping 200 dollars into a friggin portable.

MMHP really helped me get through the X games, I'm still trying to beat sigma's final form in X4 I'm pretty sure that X6's ending is the segway into Zero not X5 X5 and 6 tie into each other pretty well storywise and in brutal migrane indusing difficulty Just hearing GROUND SCARAVICH's theme gives me a migrane (when I went through that weird ass stage I had a pretty bad one) I grew up on Mega Man Games I got 2 in the summer of 89 and 3 and 4 I never got to play the others until I got a comp that could do emulation in 2001. It was only on the X collection that I got to play X4-X6. We can talk about Mega man with out the music after all it was ROCKMAN everybody loves the 2 soundtrack and I think all the Orignal Series games had good soundtracks. The X Games were hit and Miss the latter games music sucked (X5 and 6) but listening to X7 and 8 they put the Rock back in Rock man.

To clear things up: Although the X series' continuity stopped at X5, X6's endings tied up exactly how and why Zero was put in stasis, also take into consideration that that ending was supposed to be the end of all the X series, before the beginning of the Elf Wars.
Gameplay wise, I recommend to give Zero 4 a go for those who don't like the series, as no rank can stop you from getting EX Skills and therefore, you can actually complete the game at E rank.

For those that haven't played Mavrick Hunter X here are the differences
1. the upgrades were shuffled around 2. you can play as vile after beating it with x 3. New difficulty 4. in the opening stage you have to beat Vile you can't let him kick your ass anymore 5. They completely changed Sigma's Fortress around You don't fight vile until the end of the 3rd stage 6. Some stages have new layouts 7. You can escape a stage at any time 8. when you die your weapons are refilled 9. Story is changed a little
there are a few other differences I didn't note because I forgot
