Now that's odd: Telenet stealing from their own games.

•"Hommage" is more common in French than English I was going to question this - but you mean the use of double "m" right?

That's awesome stuff, stefanl! I've got some stuff that's on that amiga site planned for the 2nd page, but there are a lot of brilliant examples I've never seen/noticed before. Definitely putting some of those in... •"Hommage" is more common in French than English I was going to question this - but you mean the use of double "m" right? Ah, I was wondering about that... corrected now.

I know this would be more fitting for the second page but the Japanese-only Genesis game Metal Fangs has a ton of lookalikes on the character portraits of the character selection screen.

Boy, diving into the world of European home computer covers has opened up a whole new barrel of worms. This is getting so large, it's forcing me to restructure the article a bit. A new version with the first three of four(!) pages should be ready soon. And yes, we're finally getting some (female) semi-nudity by Frank Frazetta. In the meantime, I had a look at Metal Fangs, but the only one I recognized right away was Madonna. Mobygames had a few names attached to the screenshots, but I'm not seeing most of those, and some are even anachronisms. Here are the characters: Also, which Schwarzenegger shot is this from? And I just know I've seen a bowman with that pose while comparing Arcade flyers with Rambo. Now I don't remember if it was from a game or from Rambo, and I can't seem to find it again...

The first character on the second screenshot of Metal Fangs looks quite like Robert Smith, he of The Cure.
There's also another character that looks like rapper Ludacris, although this must have been unintentional since AFAIK Ludacris started his career years later.
I might have a look around since it's been a while since I played the game.

Yeah, that looks like Robert Smith. Then I guess we're looking for musicians first and foremost. That should make the third one on the first screenshot Elton John.
In other news, the first three pages of the four page version are up now.

Took a look at the game itself, and I just uploaded an image with each and every one of the character portraits: i.imgur.com/TeyGn.png (putting a direct link since it's probably gonna stretch the page out) Also, related: since the PSN and XBLA versions of Revenge of Shinobi are based off of the Virtual Console revision the portrait change also applies to that one. The XBLA version (not sure about the PSN one) even has as one of the backgrounds a version of the original Japanese artwork but with the non-Chiba'd face.
