Having done a google image search myself, I dunno if I'd really say the OMF portraits were traced from Goshogun.
Aside from Cossette, there are some vague similarities, but I think I'd go with Derboo on this. Given the anime/manga style newsreader, I reckon this is more a case of Diversions had a bunch of anime and manga from the period around for references, and prolly used some goshogun stuff as a reference.
If you CAN find exact images that were trade tho....that'd be pretty neat actually.

The first portrait looks vaguely like Tony Montana from Scarface, while the fourth looks like Patrick Stewart.

The 8th one looks like either Jerry Seinfeld or Tom Hanks.

Eight kinda looks like Kyle MacLachlan. Was Twin Peaks out yet when the game was released?
11 could be Geena Davis.

This is super relevant, even though Mike Winterbauer didn't "steal" any poses - he rather photographed himself (and sometimes his friends) in costumes & poses to use as reference! This contains also one or two covers that have been suggested in this thread, along with the original photos: store.blurb.com/ebooks/476544-classic-game-covers

Thunder Burner for Amiga has the ED 209 from Robocop and Bill Paxton from Aliens. That guy to the right of Paxton is another repeat offender, Animal Mother from Full Metal Jacket: It's not Kevin Kline. It's definitely Patrick Bergin from the lesser-known "Robin Hood" movie that released around the same time as Prince Of Thieves but sank almost without a trace. This pic isn't the exact source, but it's close enough to give an idea. Not sure who the "Marian" is though.

It might mean something, perhaps not. As a kid, we had a poster of SNES double dragon on our walls. It looked very out of place. Billy who is always player I has a blue outfit, but in the game he doesn't have black hair. It gave us the feeling that there was something weird about this poster, like why are they looking at the viewer while all the enemies are far in the background? And why does every double dragon cover look different? There is no consistency or continuity. The Lee Brothers look different all the time. I mean, on DD3 for the genesis they look like baddies from a Mad Max movie but on the Atari cover Billy Lee looks like He-Man's twin brother. Here is the cover of the american SNES DD it was on our walls for years and I never forget these faces and then this pic looks strikingly familiar What do you think?

The face in the middle is obviously Dolph Lundgren, probably traced from this poster: I'm guessing the guy on the right is Richard Dean Anderson as MacGyver The face on the right looks really familiar as well.

The Japanese cover for the PS1 port of X-Com: UFO Defense has a couple of traces. The only one I can recognize is the guy on the left, which is a trace of one of the Rambo poses. The guy on the right isn't really visible, but the one on the middle... I swear I did see that pose before somewhere else, but I can't recall. The back cover shows some more of it.
