Hi guys, new here.
Have to retype my post since it expired, but here goes...
I'm gonna talk about Metal Fangs and guess some of the portrait likenesses. I created a few images with comparisons, too.
Some are quite obvious - Robert Smith, Madonna, Morrissey, etc... others, not so much.
"Andy Warhol" is, strangely enough, a mix of Robin Guthrie from Cocteau Twins and Andy Warhol in the 60s.
"MC Hammer" is quite a match, but I think there's a bit of 80s Eddie Murphy as well.
"Dave Vanian" - another good guess, although I believe he also resembles Blixa Bargeld and Brandon Lee in The Crow. The film wasn't released in 1993 yet, but I'm sure there were promo pics out by that time. So I guess they used references of three different people.
"Angus Young" is similar to the vocalist from Survivor in the video for "Eye of the Tiger".
"Annie Lennox" looks like Grimes (Claire Boucher), but it's obviously not her. I can see the Annie inspiration, though.
On another website, someone said that Will Smith/Slick Rick looked like a trace of Sammy (aka Skate) from Streets of Rage and I can see that.
"Elvis Costello" reminds me of Jun Togawa. I believe she used glasses in some photoshoots and she did have shorter hair, apparently.
"Shannon Doherty" is obviously Tori Amos to me, and the character with a shaved head does resemble Michael Stipe like the poster above said.
The Japanese man with short black hair is either Susumu Hirasawa or Ryuichi Sakamoto. The image I used of Susumu Hirasawa is from the early 90s, I think.
Spiky haired guy could be a punk musician. Sid Vicious, Richard Hell, etc...
For some reason, the man with the hand on his face reminds me of House M.D. (Hugh Laurie), but that didn't exist at the time...
And "Adam Yauch" looks like Arnold Schwarzenegger on Terminator, though it seems like the sprite was reused and slightly modified. THAT one looks a bit more like MCA.
Adam Horowitz is 100% a match, though.
I'm still unsure about the "Gillian Anderson" claim I made, since she only reached mainstream fame in late 1994 when X-Files debuted. And I see a little bit of Rowland S. Howard, too.
Since Metal Fangs was published by Victor Musical Industries (aka Victor Entertainment), it makes sense that they'd be inspired by artists.
It might be worth checking their back catalogue to see if we can solve more mysteries.
"Rockstar Ate My Hamster" did a similar thing, but it was a parody game and they made that fact obvious.
Excuse my image editing skills. I did a quick job lol.
