Some quick tips that might not be apparent right away: - There's a backroom in the house if you go left. From there, you can open a cupboard to find two very handy items, as well as click on the arrow leading up stairs to enter another room of the house. This upstairs room also has items that should come in handy, namely the grammar book!
- When Pino makes an observation that is correct, praise him! For example, if you click on an animal and he asks "Is this alive?", then you should praise him. I was confused at first and thought he was being a smart ass, but apparently he wasn't. As a result, I accidentally trained him to hate animals!

Tip Time! 1: Never spend in excess and only buy what you know you immediately need... except for pudding. Always have some of that on hand. 2: When it comes to clicking on crap around the house to get Pino to learn something, don't keep clicking on the same thing repeatedly. He'll get bored of it and, while I'm not super-sure, the sound that plays may indicate a drop in some stat. Thus, have him examine something no more than three times before moving onto something else temporarily and coming back to it. 3: He'll make an X-eyes gesture while sticking his tongue out if his health drops below thirty. IMMEDIATELY go back to your house and rest up when this happens. I know it's obvious to say, but you never. Want. Him. To. Break. Down. Ever.

He'll always wander around a bit on his own, even opening doors and picking up items and such. If he's in a real sour mood, he'll ignore practically all of your orders. It's best to always keep some pudding on hand in case he gets pissed off. He got really mad at me once, refused to listen to my commands, and then threw himself down the well. Whoops! I also accidentally trained him to hate animals just like Snarboo. The whole "is this thing alive?" quote confused me a bit. I thought he was being a dismissive jerk! I think I'm probably going to restart now that I have a better grasp on things, since I hadn't made it very far yet anyway.

SUPER MEGA WARNING
Make sure you save your game reasonably regularly - this can be done by activating the POD thing and you can even skip the energy step (staying on the same day but saving your game). This is important because there are events that CAN INSTANTLY GAME OVER YOU for like no reason or warning.

I don't think there are any consequences of significance as far as breaking down goes, not in the normal game at least. If you're replaying to earn the best, full ending, then, yeah, you want to avoid ever breaking down because it wastes days.
The main reason you want to keep pudding is because it's a massive pain in the ass to drag Pino to the shop when he's mad and refuses to follow your directions. Trust me, it sucks, so avoid it.
If your stats change, the colored bulbs will light up. Open up his menu to see how the numbers were affected. Most actions will both increase a stat (or multiple stats) and decrease a stat (or stats). The game isn't so sophisticated when it comes to "learning" things. Just about everything comes down to the numbers, and you'll be increasing and decreasing them back and forth throughout the game. Sometimes making Pino bad at something is actually the correct thing to do.
If he tries to eat something he shouldn't, quickly tap the scold button twice to bash his head with a hammer and make him spit it out. :P
Heh, if you guys are thrown off by questions like "Is this alive?", wait till if and when you play Wonder Project J2. Josette starts off with even less training. She doesn't even know how to greet someone or walk without tripping and falling down.

Okay, time for my trademark "Quick & Dirty WPJ FAQ"! Everything is based around these two screens: Chapter 2 Learn how to throw the ball, and increase arm power until you get a hard throw. Chapter 3 Use the dog to increase kindness. Learn how to do a jumping slash with the stick and hoe (adequate arm power needed). Use the book to increase intelligence in order to know how to use seeds. Chapter 4 Increase your arm power, leg power, balance, confidence, luck, and diligence. Learn how to use the trumpet (you'll need high intelligence and sensitivity; singing on the table is useful for this). Increase your intelligence in order to open the treasure chest. Increase attack until you get a hard swing with the sword. Have high enough luck to find the treasure island. Chapter 5 Have high to max intelligence for your meeting with Jeanne (you'll likely need your other stats below 80). Then max aggression, athleticism, intelligence, confidence, diligence, luck, and have two A-chargers to win the tournament. Keep your sensitivity low (specifically kindness). Chapter 6 Increase sensitivity, and max out balance and arm power. Visit Mimi. Take the circus test up till the singing part, then get Mimi's song sheet. Learn how to sing well, and visit Mimi's place until she's gone. Then just complete the circus segment, and if you still can't pass balancing on the large ball, buy one and practice. Chapter 7 Learn to open doors via lockpicking. Reteach Pino to spin his head when directed to the small ball. Keep sensitivity low enough to still swordfight, and maintain enough arm power to climb. Chapter 8 Reteach Pino to open doors by yelling at them. Get the Corlo sword in the forest. Max out aggression, athleticism, intelligence, confidence, diligence, luck, and have two A-chargers to beat the dragon Giryuu. Chapter 9 Nearly max out sensitivity (but possibly not so much to prevent sword-fighting?), and teach Pino to spin his head when directed to the bouquet of flowers. Maintain arm power and confidence. That's seriously all there is to the game! If you don't screw around beyond these directions, they're good enough to get through the replay with a minimum number of days used, earning you top rankings and the best ending. I don't know the precise numbers for triggering events, but if you're failing at a task, it should be very easy to determine what needs increasing or decreasing.

For those curious but unable to, or don't feel like playing, there's also a comprehensive site article. Be warned, I recall someone saying they had to stop reading halfway through because it does get spoilery. My recollection from playing is: don't be intimidated by the sheer number of items available at the store. Many are totally superfluous to finishing the game and will just bog down your inventory. Usually you'll be informed/work out what the next task is (balancing on a ball for example), and you can then buy it. Quite a few useful items I found just lying around! I think. Trust Succubus, she knows more than I do! The nice thing with WP J2 is, I don't recall it even being possible to decrease stats when practising something, unlike here.

Yeah, looks like Succubus wins "Tipzmazzztah" (sp) for this month.
I'd actually like to keep it real like xerxes (now that I've got an S-Video cable) but I don't have the uh, "special device" (hint: not the mouse, I still have and practically worship Mario Paint). Sadly, it seems like the damn things are sold out everywhere. Crap.

Yeah, there's usually a ton of junk I never buy in the shop. The better you are at the game, the more you can cut down on your purchases. Besides the random stuff you can find and take, you can also use a lot of interactive background elements to increase or decrease stats.
I think most of the stuff in Wonder Project J2 is just Boolean. Josette either knows something or she doesn't. There are some hidden number-based stats, though, like her strength. Maybe that can be decreased by reading or something? Hard to say. I like the continual sense of growth in WPJ2, though. In the first game, it doesn't seem like Pino is much different from the beginning of the game to the end, what with how his stats go up and down the whole time.

Quick question: Does anyone know a reliable way to raise the Luck status? At least one of us is having trouble raising the stat when it appears necessary to clear a mandatory challenge.

Off the top of my head, I think praying to the little turtle figure that you find in the forest increases luck. If you buy the locked chest and learn how to open it successfully, I think that increases luck too.

Yeah even though the forest says it raises physical stats you can find the turtle figure there and you can also pray to big turtle head there as long as your intelligence is high enough (I think that's required).

Any advice for what to do after I finish the sports contest? I'm figuring it has something to do with the trumpet, but I'm not entirely sure.
Also, I have a plan brewing in my head for this month's podcast. A wonderful plan. Stay tuned.

Here are some more quick tips for you guys: - There are more objects in the house that Pino can interact with that may not be obvious at first. For example, there's a generator in the backroom. If Pino has a high enough reasoning skill, he can interact with it and it will give him a small health and energy recharge. However, doing so will lower a number of stats, so do so sparingly! He can also interact with the computer in the main room. This will give you a few tips and spoilers for future puzzles. You can also interact with the stove, but I have no idea what it's for yet.
- Pay attention to how objects modify stats. For the most part, stereotypes reign supreme: books raise intelligence but lower arm strength, the dumbbell raises arm strength but lowers intelligence, etc. It can be a bit frustrating finding items that aren't mutually exclusive when raising specific stats.
- I've noticed there are four heart shaped items in the shop that correspond with the four blood types: A, B, AB, and O. Given the role blood types play in Japanese culture, each heart will probably affect Pino's stats according to the appropriate stereotype. This may come in handy for future puzzles!

I should mention there's a CONFIDENCE BOOSTER in the store which is incredibly helpful if you accidentally end up with no confidence since that stat itself seems hard to level effectively.
