I'd totally be on board for funding a kickstarter to have all involved with the Donkey Kong Rap and its inclusion in various games to face mass execution.

Three only if it was in SSBB. I want to organize one for the person who not only created Diddy Kong Racing, but whoever decided that it needed to be remade.

There was the potential for a good game in Diddy Kong Racing -but Rare being Rare decided to make even it a horrific collect-a-thon. Oh and those characters "I'm Timber!" - a piece of wood manages to have more interesting features than a cartoon tiger with big eyes ¬_¬

The DK Rap is the most delicious cheese that side of any Sonic vocal music.

Th--that's harsh. It wasn't as good as any of the DK games before it, but it wasn't a abomination. Then again, maybe I'm just talking crazy seeing as how most people seem to like DKCR. I do like DK64 somewhat. I definitely don't think it deserves quite the level of hate it often gets. I don't think it's really all that different from Banjo-Kazooie, so I don't understand how that game is so loved and DK64 is despised. But I think Banjo-Kazooie is way overrated myself. I just think neither game really classifies as a platformer since legitimate platforming is so minimal. They lean more towards adventure games, with a focus on exploration and collecting a million items. Compared to, say, Super Mario 64's Bowser stages, there's a stark contrast. DK64 is slightly farther from a platformer than Banjo, though. It feels like just wandering around big hubs, looking for barrels to shoot you off to a mini-game.

My only issue with DK64 (and Banjo-Tooie) was the exaggerated collectathon. Sure, Mario 64 and Banjo Kazooie had them, but they were passable and even fun, but in DK64 and BT... jeez...

I don't know if I'd say it was passable in Banjo-Kazooie, and Super Mario 64 definitely wasn't in the same league. Super Mario 64 has never felt particularly collecting focused to me. Sure, you have to get the stars, but they feel more like the equivalent of reaching the flagpole or end-stage gate in the older games. They just mark the goal point. Since the star requirement is so loose for beating the game, you don't have to bother much with coin collecting if you don't want to. Banjo-Kazooie, on the other hand, has VERY strict requirements, so you basically have to collect EVERY damn doodad in the game. Every jingo, every note, every jigsaw piece, EVERYTHING. It's the equivalent of if you had to collect EVERY red coin, yellow coin, and star just to beat Super Mario 64, and if the stages were designed around running around and picking up everything rather than more focused on platforming and completing specific goals.

So how many Kong's are there total now? Counting the classic series, Country, 64, and anything else that's come after then? I wonder if there are more Kongs or Sonic characters in existence. I don't follow the Sonic series so I have no idea. Kiddy owns fuck the haters and get ma bib I don't hate Kiddy, but I remember being disappointed initially that Diddy wasn't playable, since he was my favorite character in the first two games. Nowadays though I think I like Dixie more in both of her playable games. Which makes me sad that she's barely had any significant role in a game since then. I'd totally be on board for funding a kickstarter to have all involved with the Donkey Kong Rap and its inclusion in various games to face mass execution. The Donkey Kong rap is fucking awesome as shit I do like DK64 somewhat. I definitely don't think it deserves quite the level of hate it often gets. I don't think it's really all that different from Banjo-Kazooie, so I don't understand how that game is so loved and DK64 is despised. But I think Banjo-Kazooie is way overrated myself. DK64 is slightly farther from a platformer than Banjo, though. It feels like just wandering around big hubs, looking for barrels to shoot you off to a mini-game. I liked DK64 as a kid, along with Banjo, but nowadays I really don't like Banjo-Kazooie. Unfortunately I lost my copy of DK64 so I don't know how I'd feel about it today, but I do remember thinking that it felt a lot like a Banjo-Kazooie game that used the DKC license. Despite my not really liking collectathons today, I still want to get DK64 again, if only to unlock the Donkey Kong arcade game in it :D I don't know if I'd say it was passable in Banjo-Kazooie, and Super Mario 64 definitely wasn't in the same league. Super Mario 64 has never felt particularly collecting focused to me. It's the equivalent of if you had to collect EVERY red coin, yellow coin, and star just to beat Super Mario 64, and if the stages were designed around running around and picking up everything rather than more focused on platforming and completing specific goals. This is a major reason why I greatly prefer Super Mario 64 over Banjo-Kazooie. I still enjoy going back to Super Mario 64 and just messing around in each level; Mario's controls in that game are some of the most enjoyable I've used in any 3D game to this day.

I'm going to say easily more Sonic characters. The Adventure games were filled with named characters and it's been getting worse. DK I just don't think ever had anything like that. If we're counting playable at least once then Sonic still wins because He added one new character per his first three games, like DK, but then you have that arcade game with the trackball and Sonic Fighters and Each adventure game had like 9 different characters between them and at least three never before playable in Battle's multiplayer.

Yeah, that's old, but people still cling to that statement. I fixed the wikipedia page now, hopefully some wikinazi doesn't delete it claiming that the source is not notable enough or something. It's easier to fool people than convincing them that they have been fooled. We have 2016 and there are still people who cling to that statement.

Well, now that this thread's up again... Am I the only one who'd like Playtonic to tackle another DK game for Nintendo, after they're done with Yooka-Laylee?

Dunno. 3D platform games have changed a lot since N64 era with the old ones (especially the ones made my Rare) focusing more at exploration and items collections and the new ones focusing more at fast-paced platforming action.

I still don't think Miyamoto said that. At least not that way. It's not typical for a Japanese person to badmouth other people's work, and much less right in front of them. He either used different words or the translation was sensationalized. Rare isn't japanese. If they were Microsoft wouldn't have bought them.
